Gadget--bar extender for extra computer/light question

Are some better than others? I have seen "NITTO" Brand for $65 down to "TOPEAK" brand for $9.95.

If you have one is there good or bad things about some and such?

Bikes: Baum Romano, Brompton S2, Homemade Bamboo!

I have a couple of these.

Cheap and very well made - great value. Good service too (it will come in the mail from Taiwan).

I use the Topeak on my road bike and I'm pretty happy with it.

What I'd like to see is a unit like this that holds 2 18650 batteries and has a MagicShine plug on the end.

One thing more - space bar gadgets can serve as a "flat" area to strap a battery. Dinottee batteries have really cool straps built in

These guys have an upgrade that can hold several lights, GPS and perhaps the battery pack also.

However I would put the pack UNDER or ON your Top Tube, or run it to the saddle area, even better UNDER your Stem, where I have mine

Don't get the topeak, it's a piece of junk. Well at least mine wasn't strong enough to handle the weight I put on it and it snapped mid ride. Pretty scary as at the time I was in traffic going down a hill at a decent clip with 40 lbs of groceries on my rear rack.

The stem that looks like metal connecting the extender piece to the part the clamps on to your bars looks like it's metal, but is just chromed plastic. I had my air zound horn (not the bottle just the horn), my computer (cata strada cadence wired) and my light (a 2 AA cateye model) on it, so maybe that was too much weight.

I've thought about going with the bdop, but I've just dropped a lot on other mods to my bike, so that's waiting for maybe next month.

For anyone with the bdop, how far out does the extender sit from your bars? What's the gap like? I ask because I'm trying to determine the viability of getting one, but also whether it'll get in the way of other stuff (like my interrupter levers if I get the really big one).

Does anyone make one of these with a quick release on the handlebar side?

I think someone makes a basket with the quick release. Maybe you could buy one of those and cut the basket down to just what you need.

I have the Topeak installed on one of my bikes. I use it to hold a Minty 350 and its battery pack. Its been used for about seven months so far. Only problem that ever occurred was early on. I must not have tightened the screws properly and they worked loose while riding. Stopped and tightened everything and they have worked great since then.

hmmm, mine broke on the first day after about 30 miles riding. Maybe I just got a defective one. If I hadn't bought it on ebay, I would have returned it.

I was hoping for something like in this thread, that leaves the bar empty when it's off. I'd love to have a way to mount two battery lights to 1/2" of bar space in a few seconds.

I just ordered one of those like 5 minutes ago myself. Really wanted to go with the titanium, but just couldn't justify the $7 premium I just got a quick release handlebar bag that takes up too much room, so I needed to get something to raise the light above it and give me room for the computer.

Nashbar used to sell aerobars with this mount, that appeared to be rebranded Cinelli Spinaci Light:

https://www.cinelli.it/scripts/access...g=EN&IdAcc=109

They ran for $14 on sale and you could make either one long or two short extender bars out of them.

And by buying the bdop extender, you're helping out a fellow BF'er. In all seriousness, the owner is a frequent poster and is very helpful...

Centre of handlebar to centre of extension bar - 55mm
Open gap between the two - 28mm
