Headlight Mounting Question?
I am trying to correctly mount my Edulux headlight on my Carbon fork. The fork is designed for cantilever brakes, and the hole on the carbon fork crown is a straight diameter all the way thru.. In other words, it does not have a counter sunk hole on the rear of the fork like most forks have using caliper brakes. Since there is no counter sunk hole in the back, I will have to use a washer on the bolt that is larger than the diameter of the hole to tighten things down. i am worried that it could crush the carbon around the hole when I tighten it down.
Is that description of my issue clear as mud?
Is this the right way to mount it? or am I missing something?
I called Peter White for some help, seeing as I purchased the light from him, and he acted like I was an idiot. Maybe I am but I need some constructive advice. Thanks

That sounds exactly like the fork problem I recently had. Is your fork all carbon or is the crown made of aluminum? Do you have a threaded bolt to run though the hole? Mine seemed to have a threaded insert within the fork that allowed a bolt to be threaded into it, but the insert was not secured well and would spin before it was sufficiently tightened.
If it helps, my bike is a fuji cyclocross bike and needed a 55mm M6 bolt. For your application (thinner piece to attach) a 50mm might be enough. You will probably need to go to a specialty hardware store to find that size, my local Ace Hardware didn't go that large. Biggest they had was 50mm in black oxide (rust issue) and I think 30mm in stainless steel (depends on the local store). I ordered online from Fastenal and had a good experience, but they also have local stores.
Here's my old thread... I should update with pics...

Fork is all carbon, and the mount I have came with a 6mm bolt and nut. Its long enough to fit the length of the fork crown, the fork hole is 6mm in front, but then the diameter of the hole gets really big for most of the full length of the crown. The hole at the rear of the fork is almost 1/2", but its not countersunk. Here is what the mount looks like. I am mainly concerned that I will crush the carbon fiber when I tighten things up.

Well I guess I figured it out. I called Specialized (its their frame), and they said the hole is weird shaped because it is for their proprietary front rack setup.. which uses a long 30mm female brake nut. They said I could not buy one separately from the rack. So, I found a company called "Problem Solvers" and I purchased their 30mm female brake caliper nut which is designed for wide/thick bladed fork crowns. Hopefully this will work, but I have to wait a week to get it shipped..
I will say one other thing. The more I think about how Peter White talked to me today on the phone the madder I get.. Just spent close to 1k with him recently on wheels, dynamo, and lights, and he treated me like an idiot over the phone. Even went so far as to tell me I should have my bike built at a shop (instead of by me) or I would kill myself building it, if I cant even figure out how to mount a headlight. I have heard he is like a "Bicycle Nazi", but he has treated me well up to this point. Anyway, just venting. He has a great web resource, but his phone demeanor needs a bit of work!
