Greetings all: Has anyone tried this flashlight? 850 lumen, single 18650 battery, no wires. A little pricey but Fenix makes quality lights. I really don't need it but....
I would like to here from cyclists using it.

I would be interested in hearing from someone using this light as well. I have been considering it. I like the idea of easily replicable batteries. The only thing holding me back is the desire for a shaped beam. I would use this for part of my commute or those days when I take the long way to work and I am concerned the flashlight may be too bright for oncoming traffic (bikes, peds, or cars).

I'm thinking that is low beam, which for cycling is essentially worthless, ok for camping and such. I think a 3100mah battery will go 1.5hrs. Perfect for me.

I have a similar model, don't like adjustable. It self adjust at times while riding and the super long throw is just a tiny bright square of light. I have tried using tape to secure beam throw to my desire length. I've come to like flood over throw.

That is an impressive light. I've had a Fenix LD-20 for about six years, and it was the first light I used for commuting. Although I no longer use it for commuting, it has been a great light and I still use it for camping, general use and occasional riding. I might be interested in buying one of the PD-35s, but I just ordered a Light & Motion Taz 1000. The Taz costs about twice as much but has a shaped designed for cycling and is easy to mount and recharge. What I like about the Fenix and similar lights is the ability to carry spare batteries to extend run times, and being able to buy extras for reasonable prices. My L&M has proprietary batteries and needs to be sent back to the factory for replacements, but my current L&M Urban 500 has lasted 2+ years on the its batteries and they are still going strong.

Its an awsome light, one of the better ones for EDC, great output and its got prettty good runtime.

But for cycking forget it.

The 850lumen mode is only a 4min turbo mode, and then it steps down to a lower power, then again after half an hour, on the second step down its only 170 lumens, no good for cycling but still an awsome torch.

The beam is actualy very good for cycling, nice and floody, with a wide hotspot, although it dosent have great throw TBH. would be good on the helmet and leave it turned off or on low, and the turn it up to turbo / high for decent, but no good as a stand alone light.

Thanks I posted same question about the step down on Candlepower forum. They stated just what you said. Not a good choice for cycling. There's a great review with wonderful images over there as well. In it I saw reference about step down. I was wishing it was temp controlled step down and not time driven. You are correct, wonderful illumination from small, portable, light with easily replaceable batteries. They recommend a Zebralight SC600L2

@davidad: I also looked at the bt-20 light. Don't want wires but it seems really bright and affordable. Are you saying it is too bright?? Looks like is has great throw and flood. @$72.00 quite the steal

@tarwheel: I too had/have Fenix LD-20. Greatest AA light I ever used. Still ride with one on my helmet. Use to be my only light I've come along way baby.

I EDC the PD35. Great light! I have not used it for cycling, but love it as a pocket light. We just got a BT20 for a new commuter light for DH. It's quite bright, and should do the trick. I love that it takes regular 18650 batteries and I can carry as many as I think I will need.

I use the Zebra Light with the new Fenix mount and I couldn't be happier with it.

I had a PD-32, and it was excellent, until the switch failed. Grr. Brightest flashlight I've owned, and it seemed to last longer than the one I use now which puts out less light.

But really, I've just about had enough with using flashlights for cycling. A light designed for cycling is so much nicer in so many ways.
