@Namida12, what about some sort of adapter for the K-Edge mount, could replace the single GoPro or my Di2 design with some sort of doubled up mount? I am just shouting out ideas here?

I am a big fan of the K-Edge Combo mount, and it would be fairly easy to do something along the lines of what JonnyHK has done with a bunch of different stuff.

I'd agree - we just need to see all the parts you need to mount, perhaps even with a photo of you holding them in place on/by the bike to show where you would ideally want them to be.

WheresWaldo & JonnyHK,

This is what I ordered &
Received
Bike Handle Bar Extender Double Mount Lamp Bracket Holder Bar Extender Mount | eBay <--difficult if not impossible to locate modern device mounts @ 22.2 diameter. How and where they got the demo device mounts in 22.2 is beyond my search skills. Think they are 24.5 mm just sitting in place.

I did miss the less expensive forward bar...

Bike Handlebar Carbon Extender Handle Bar Mount Stand Holder Phone GPS Lights | eBay

The Diameter of 22.2 is just wrong in 2016 or for old French vintage bicycles. In my opinion this forward Tube/bar clamps should be 31.8 mm to 31.8 mm and have a carbon or alloy tube of 31.8. That said John_V's suggestion in another thread quote: "a bit automotive Rubber hose might do the trick."

Believe if that automotive hose has enough compression strength to stop a light from changing alignment every time I hit a bump. Also it needs not to let the Sony Cam vibrate ruining the cam capture with jitter.

The saga continues because I can not locate a 31.8 to 31.8 forward bar setup instead of 22.2 I purchased.

Have not purchased lights yet, A Garmin 705 with attachment converting it to a quarter turn design, a Lazyne Super GPS, and a Sony
HDR-AZ1 with a Direct GoPro Mount from Shapeways.

Looking at the cheaper lights with 24.5 mm MTB mount base and rubber bands to attach to handlebars, most of these look like the base can be modified to fit a 22.2 bar.
8000LM CREE XML T6 5X LED Bicycle Bike Lamp Headlamp Headlight Head Torch Light | eBay
Using a split automotive rubber hose at or near 31.8 mm for the center section of the tube/bar I can get a 31.8 GePro mount to keep the Sony Cam & rubber hose secure in the center section of the forward bar I purchased. In the demo picture of the forward bar I purchased that would be where they show the garmin mounted between the lights.
Aluminum Bike Bicycle Handlebar Pole Clamp Mount 31 8mm for GoPro HD Hero 4 3 2 | eBay

That takes care of 3 devices, all I have left is the GPS Computers. Since I change them out, I need a new stem cap or two stem caps: One with a Garmin Mount, and one with a Lezyne style mount and believe I would be a happy cyclist. This should be found on Shapeways, as I need both Garmin & Lezyne models and see little reason to pay $25 for an alloy unit.

WheresWaldo,

Have you seen this K-Edge knockoff <--Not a dual mount as suggested but with the price it is ready for modifications

22.2 is the exact size of time trial extension bars. Looking for those might net some results.

If I recall correctly, there is a guy from Vancouver, BC that is on MTBReview that does custom aluminum mounts for those CREE lights. I am not sure he does any for different sized bars other than the more common MTB sizes.

I have two styles of stem cap mounts already up on Shapeways for Garmin (one for sale, the other no one has asked about), there are others up there too.

Yes, I have seen those, but didn't pay too much attention since nothing popped into my head about where I would use one. As I have mentioned in previous comments, these things were borne out of necessity and specific requests. I may have to revisit the GoBig style of mounts to see what can be done with it.

WheresWaldo 01-12-16 11:58 AM

Hey @Namida12 I just thought about this a bit more. It might be easy to adapt that GoBig style clone mount. Maybe something that requires longer bolts to go all the way through and extend out the other side, then place some sort of adapter on the side where the bolts extend held on with a couple of nylon insert lock nuts. It could be a bar holder for the 22.2 bar, a mount for Garmin, custom single headlight adapter for those CREE style lights, etc. Issue with adding a Garmin mount is that those Chinese (as well as the K-Edge) mounts are pretty short and bigger Garmins might be problematic.

I am not sure just yet how it would all work together, I am just brainstorming and thinking out loud.

@Namida12

Most of those out in front mounts that I've seen are 31.8 to something like 22mm. The standard Garmin mount that uses the little rubber bands fits fine, so I presume the Lezyne one will as well.

The other things might need more thought.

Created another product to fulfil a request. Someone wanted to mount their Garmin Varia set up to the back of their saddle using the Cateye saddle rail tail light mount. So I made a Cateye-to-Garmin part.

The mount
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=498316
The part - should fit instead of a tail light.

I also quickly worked up a GoPro version by swapping out the Cateye section.

I've also been working on the many variations for the Fizik ICS mount.

Getting it secure (i.e. not falling out) is one thing, but getting it stable (no wobble) is another.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=498330http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=498331
This worked OK, but I realised I didn't need it to be so long...

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=498332
Revised shorter version.

Still wobbles a bit on one saddle, so I will add the extra springy part in the centre so that it is more close in function to the Cateye part.

You almost have to build in a bit of a fudge factor and make it a tight fit in order for it not to wobble. I learned that lesson the hard way with the ION AIR adapters I made, finally had to make it a few thousandths oversized to get it to fit without wobbling. If you are printing them yourself, maybe scale up a fractional percentage before slicing.

I've only got two different saddles to test with (not a huge sample range I know) but going a bit oversized to make it snug in one means it doesn't work in the other - hence the springy bits. There seems to be a lot of variation between saddles and I will need to find a few other people to help with testing.

Here is a new photo of forward mount bar installed.

Mounted it looks sweet, and when Glub, or someone else makes this 31.8 mm to 31.8 mm forward bar it is going to create a clean solid mount for the road bike community, maybe if the Tube/bar was a bit longer.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/644955...7644176380365/

Tomorrow I will look for some automotive hose with 31.8 OD.

I ordered 10 of these 31.8 mm go pro mounts. @ this price one never know how many bicycles can have a GoPro mount for a Sony Mini Cam from Shapways...

Yep, could be mounted via shorter rubber bands on the 22.2 tube/bar.

I have friend in southern Cal using the Garmin Varia, how do I send the address of your post showing this to him?

I only know how to give him the link, with instructions: go to end them back several postings to #206

It's been a slow week for my freelance and other work, so here are some more revisions.

Revised with a springy tab thing in the middle.

Same, but with GoPro removed and Garmin added.

Working on something for Ay-Up light users, but it would also work for a small camera.

Few alterations needed:
- clearance for cables
- flex at mounting point

WheresWaldo 01-20-16 05:52 PM

@JonnyHK I haven't done anything that mounts behind the brake bolt. That is just beyond my comfort level, but please tell us if your braking suffers any adverse effects.

Even though many less expensive brakesets use plastic washers, I am biased by using Dura-Ace and Ultegra brakes which do not use plastic in those areas.

Given the amount of flat area and the length of the brake mounting bolt I don't see it being an issue. Perhaps if the hole in the fork is really oversized there might be some chance of movement. Even if the plastic broke and somehow fell out (leaving the brake with a 3mm gap to the fork) the caliper would still work and reach the rim to allow you to stop.

Mk1 at the top, Mk3 at the bottom. Longer, lower, thicker sides, cross bracing at the junction point.

Planemaker 01-22-16 09:32 AM

Not sure how to go about this so, here goes. I have Garmin 810 Edge and NiteRider Pro 1400 that I would like to pair together on the same mount. I’ve seen that WOMO Designs makes an out from chassis that has above and below mounts that fit my needs but, the chassis and mounts are around $100 on the NiteRider website. I was hoping for a cheaper and possible lighter solution.
I’ve seen on Shapeways.com that somebody has developed a NiteRider Pro mount that will adapt to a GoPro helmet mount.
My questions are as follows:
How does one go about getting a mount such as the one I need made (I actually like the idea of the NiteRider Pro mount adapting to a Garmin/GoPro mount)?
How much does it cost?

WheresWaldo 01-22-16 02:29 PM

Planemaker, Are you looking for a cheaper alternative to the entire mount, or just some adapter that goes from a mount to something that fits the Pro 1400?
I would think that an adapter for something line the K-Edge Combo XL mount would work very well, I already designed several for Di2 Junction Box, GoPro and Garmin Virb. You probably won't get much cheaper by doing it in plastic, but it could be lighter if you are a weight weenie.

Thanks for responding to my question. You are correct, I am looking for an adapter that will work with a K-Edge Combo XL. My issue was that I don't want to pay the price for a one trick pony. During the winter when I ride at night I want to be able to hand the light off the mount and in the summer hange either a GoPro or Garmin VIRB. Verstatility with goes under the Garmin is what I am looking for. Hopefully, this makes sense.

WheresWaldo 01-23-16 04:33 PM

Well the Combo XL is already an Edge / GoPro mount, So it would seem that what you are asking for is a Lumina/GoPro Adapter, correct?

Planemaker 01-25-16 07:58 AM

I like how you took my confusing posts and distilled them down into one very consise and accurate statement.

The only change would be that I am looking for a NiteRider Pro/GoPro Adapter.

Thanks for clarifying, NiteRider seems a bit schizophrenic when it comes to mount styles, each series seem to have their own mounts. No wonder nobody has done this before.

I will send you a PM with my contact information

Namida12 01-28-16 12:38 PM

WheresWaldo,

I ordered a stem cap Garmin mount, and contacted Kevin and have a 22.2 GoPro Mount scheduled to be manufactured. Still waiting for the 8000LM CREE XML T6 5x LED Bicycle Bike Lamp Headlamp to arrive to modify the mount for the 22.2 mm forward mounted Glub G-559, in an upside down position.

Then I will do some testing to see how long and well the single light will perform, before I order the second one.

I have some time before the July STP event, as i want to check the video and lighting... Thanks for the referral to Kevin, and the part to solve my accessory mounting.

JR

WheresWaldo 01-29-16 02:43 PM

Glad to be of assistance, that is what this community is all about. I always wanted to do STP but never got around to it. Ridden over the Santiam Pass several times from Eugene to Bend! Central Oregon is a beautiful place to ride. But I could never bring myself to train for STP although I hear that Seattle to Portland is generally downhill.
