I have a Spanniga micro FF LED front light and it doesn't work. I have an ebike. So not sure if it is just a blown globe? MICRO FF Halogen and LED | Spanninga
I emailed the manufacturer as the bike is out of warranty and the shop i bought it from in Sydney australia is no longer in business. The manufacturers english is not very good and all i can get out of them is that they will send something(not sure if just the globe) but the postage charge is rediculous. I have asked several different ways can they send it not by a courier but something cheaper. Here we have Australia post and it is a lot cheaper than couriers...well express is expensive though. Anyway thought i would see if anyone can tell me if this is something i can test or repair?

Halogen bulbs do burn out , they have filaments, check the continuity, a blown filament opens the circuit.


perhaps its time to join the flow moving to LED headlights.

Ok maybe the LED, if thats what you got, worked but the circuit still broke . a continuity test would still be one to try..

Understandable. I got confused with the manual as well. It mentions both LED and Halogen. So i cant change an led bulb? So its not called a bulb? I did contact spanninga but it was an asian address(email) and they dont seem to understand exactly what i am saying i think. Also they wanted to courier something to me but its too expensive. I said havent you got some type of government run post office but i cant understand their badly written english. They seem to want to help though

if it's led, it is mounted on a circuit board and is one of the most difficult things to replace. The LED is not that likely to burn out.

Thanks so does that mean i may need to replace the whole light? At present i just have a little flashing led light on the handle bar

well, like I said in a previous post, you should look for connection problems inside the case. Otherwise, yes, you need another light because it's going to be hard to diagnose the one you have

OK thanks i tried the other day to open it up and look at connections but couldnt figure out either. Will try again in a few days :0) I wont replace it probably. Sounds like these things are expensive. I will do with the little led light i have and see if i can figure out things later :0)

that light new is about $20 usd, which is really cheap. I guess we all have our definitions of expensive

Is it connected to your ebike's LCD computer? Because I have a Spanninga front light on my ebike, and it stopped working one day, and then I realized it's because I connected it to the ebike's LCD thingy (computer?) the wrong way, which short circuited that LCD. The LCD had to be replaced (bike was under warranty, fortunately).

Cant find these in australia and the seller/manufacturer or distributor said something more than that price

Hi can you elaborate on the hot and ground. I sort of know what you mean by ground. Yeah not sure how to test. My previous electric bike didnt have a light attached to it. Just a battery one

Its connected to my ebikes battery...that runs the ebikes motor. Lithium 36 volt one. Yeah my bike didnt come with a computer and is out of warranty now

On my bike, the wire goes from the controller to the light, not directly from the battery or the LCD computer. Also, all ebikes have a computer, even if it doesn't have an LCD screen. I mean, how else would you turn your ebike on?

Oh i know what you mean. My light has a push button on top of it. Ofcourse the bike has to be on for the light to operate. Anyway managed to pull the connectors from the whatever and reconnect them. No change. Not sure what else to check. Everything inside looks fine but what would i know. One store has these lights but they are $60 aud. I also saw on ebay they are only $21 aud but the delivery charge from wherever overseas is more than that. Anyway its a light i rarely use. Its not the brightest light either as someone pointed out earlier

Yeah, mine isn't great either. It's rated at 13 lux, which doesn't mean much actually, but it's not very useful outside when it's dark. I bought this one instead: Smart BL 185 700L Front Light | Chain Reaction Cycles

It has its own battery so I can use it even when I ride my ebike without the battery (which I do every day, for sports).
Also, the reviews in the link above say it's plenty powerful.

I have no idea. Its not like there is a shop you can walk into with ebike products on the shelf. Its very expensive here in Australia generally . Theres only 2 ebike shops anywhere near me. One has very little on their walls(on display) and the other is the same. I didnt even know one had the same light because i took it for granted they only had the minimal stock on the walls and nothing in the back room or wherever. Anyway will tackle this again in a few days because i think theres one other reason the light may not be working. Could be the push button on/off switch. No time to check for days though

I don't think 3 dollars can buy a good light. If you're buying from ebay, then get one that has a CREE led. It's a company that makes good leds which most quality front lights use.

Ah so Cree is a brand. I was wondering what that meant. I saw someones light on a bike last night and i asked him about the lumen. He said his is 250 lumen and he said it is illegal to go over 300 lumen with a road bike(maybe in australia). He said you can have more if off road. Anyway i cant probably afford the cree one i would say. I pulled the light i have apart and its not the button that turns the light on/off that is causing the issue. Well still could be but it seems to be functional. Everything looks undamaged inside like new. Will keep investigating. Since this is an electrical issue i will try someone i know that is good with that sort of thing maybe next week :0)
