Netherlands and Belgium : cycling and sleeping
If you plan a cycling tour in the Netherlands / Holland and Belgium, you might try this original way to find a place to stay.
3500 private addresses offer bed and breakfast during your cycling tour. It's only 17 euro per person per night, breakfast included. Most of the people who offer accomodation are cycling and touring themselves, so you have always something to talk about, or just to get some local and personal advice.
Quite an original way to discover both countries. You may be sure that your bicycle is safely stored and that your breakfast will give you enough power for a new cycling day.
There are even a few adresses in Germany, France, Luxembourg, Italy, United Kingdom, Switzerland, ...
Conditions :
Travelling by bike
Being a member of the Dutch non-profit organisation 'Vrienden op de Fiets.' (= 'Friends on the Bike') www.vriendenopdefiets.nl > English version
Membership is only 9 euro (Europe) and 15 euro outside.
Booking in advance.

Update
Now that we're nearly 2011, it's time for a little update.
'Vrienden op de Fiets' gathers now 4200 hosts where you can stay while touring the Low Countries. Most of them are situated in the Netherlands and Belgium. There are also 135 hosts in Germany (mainly in the very western part) and 75 in France. Even outside the 'old continent', some families in the US, Canada, Israel and Australia have discovered 'Vrienden op de Fiets' and open their houses.
Pricing is now 19 euro for 1 night including breakfast.
Membership is 10 euro (Europe) or 16 euro (outside of Europe, because of higher dispatching costs for the annual guide)
If you're cycling with children in Belgium, 'Gezinnen op de Fiets' can be an option too. Website is only available in Dutch: https://www.gezinsbond.be/index.php?o...=56&Itemid=268. Their yearly brochure contains 200 host families. Membership is 6 euro, overnightings are at 18 euro (or 9 for children under 12 years).
If intrigued by sleeping in a piece of art (!) you're welcome in Kemzeke (near Sint-Niklaas, Belgium) where the Verbeke Foundation displays it's huge collection of modern art in a domain of 30 acres. The basic Campingflats by Kevin Van Braak are available at 35 euro for two persons, the CasAnus (in the shape of the human digestion system ) by Joep Van Lieshout is more pricey.
