After years of riding bikes with quiet feewheels and freehubbs, I first experienced a loud freehub on my 2011 Specialized Roubaix with Fulcrum wheels. Up until then I had been annoyed by loud hubs and initially found these objectionable. But I gradually warmed to them and eventually came to like the sound. Since then, I swapped those wheels for Rovals with DT hubs and was at first disappointed with how quiet they were, but they gradually became louder, though never quite as loud as the Fulcrums. Now am running White Industries T11 hubs on one bike (initially quiet but gradually becoming louder), Roval/DT on another and I love the noise. When I ride my Fuji with Phil Wood freewheel hub which is silent, I sometimes wonder what is wrong.
As my boss at the bike shop told me when I complained about the irritating noise of his Chris King MTB hub, "keep pedaling and don't coast".
