new here

Hello everyone!! My wife Brenda and I ride. Brenda is a fair weather rider. I try to ride as often as I can. We got the bug a couple of years ago. We purchased a couple of Giant Hybrids. I got involved with a group of road riders at work. didn't take long to figure out I needed a road bike. Ended up getting a used a 60 cm Trek 1000. Love it!! Also got into clipless pedals. love them too. Looks like a lot for great info here.

Hello!

qcpmsame 01-06-16 08:17 AM

Welcome aboard, from another Bill, stick around the asylum and make yourself at home. There are many great, knowledgeable folks in this forum, take full advantage of what is available. Some pictures of both bikes will be most welcome, we have a thread for Old Folks bicycle pictures to be displayed so we can drool over the toys. Enjoy the miles and have a blast, ride safe.

Bill

Don't have any good real good pics of the trek, but here is what I do have. Running Shimano M424 pedals on the trek. May buy a set for the hybrid as well .

Welcome! Since you bought a Trek 1000, don't hesitate to visit the C&V forum too. Lots of great people and tons of information, both from the past and mixing it up with the near past!

billd76 01-06-16 12:06 PM

JPPE, where in NC are you? I was born in West Jefferson. What is the pie affinity all about?

C&V ???? The 1000 is not even 10 years old yet! Almost but not yet!

BlazingPedals 01-06-16 12:41 PM

My last upright bike was a Trek 1000. Good all-arounder, at least as road bikes go.

We in the 50+ group like to ride for pie. Or other food if pie isn't available. Part of the initiation ceremony involves a picture of your favorite type; and not some fake file pic. No, it has to be a pic of a real, soon-to-be-scarfed-by-you piece.

No worries I checked out the C&V forum anyway! It does appear that bikes are like stereo equipment in the late 70's, pretty much out dated within 30 days buying the gear. :) Why cant I get the emoticons to post to my replies!!:) Sorry no pies at our house. Brenda calls it the "devils" food! No Bread at our house either. Wheat is the Devils food as well :) She is on the no carb kick as well , but her no carb/low carb cooking is the best!! Myself sill love a good Big Mac with Fries and a chocolate shake!!! I will post a pic of some kind of food. I pretty much a like Mikey though, I'll eat and enjoy anything!

billd76 - Well I think bicycle development at the turn of the 19th to 20th century might be analogous to the electronic development of the late 70's. Mohr;s law has certainly applied to for a number of decades for that industry, unlike bikes for the last 100 years.

freedomrider1 01-06-16 01:36 PM

 NO PIE!

billd76 01-06-16 01:47 PM

Ha yeah no pie!!! :( ! worse is, my dear mother was a southern lady and man I really missing my cornbread and biscuits and gravy, but I guess I'm healthier? Have weighed 179 lbs since getting out the of Marine Corps in 83.

kevindsingleton 01-06-16 02:57 PM

I have been forced to update my computers and finally my TV and DVD (now Blu-Ray) player, but I never worry about my other possessions being "outdated" or "obsolete."
Cars: 1996 Audi A4 and 2001 VW Passat wagon (still the best-sized, best-configured car ever sold in the US).
House: 1975 construction.
Bicycles: See signature.
Home audio speakers: 1993 Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble + CSW powered subwoofer
Motto: buy high quality stuff, take good care of it, and don't sell it without a damn good reason

I'm north of Charlotte in Concord. We have property off Hwy 88 out of West Jefferson in the Creston community though. Lovely area. Gotta love riding hills around West Jefferson!

When were you at PI? Reported 03 Jan 77, to stand on the yellow foot prints. Formerly a PLC/OC, sworn in on 20 Dec 75, then moved to enlisted status for the paycheck. Flight Surgeon had other ideas:notamused: a several months later and bounced me.

Bill

You have to find some form of PIE! Its in your contract here.

Did someone say "pie"? That's reason enough for a ride ... but not now, gotta wait for all the snow on the road to melt.

Got off the bus on 20 July 1976 enlisted on 31 October 75.. Will figure ot the pie somehow.

Semper Fi, brother:thumb:, glad you found this place. Pie is just a topic that is kind of an ice breaker, we even have an annual Pie Ride Day, each September, on a Saturday, that will be posted here. Its a running joke, that got legs, back several years ago, it sticks around because most of us have a favorite pie, for after ride recovery you know. And, it just flat gets under a few curmudgeon's skin:roflmao2: when we bring it up. You'll be able to pick those characters out, easily:rolleyes:.

Hmmm, 31 Oct 75, a pretty darned good day, in my personal history line, my wife and I had our first date, that night. A free triple feature of movies at the junior college we attended, thankfully she didn't boot my cheap ass for seeing the freebies, and that first kiss was something else. After 39-1/2 years, and two great kids, it is still a thrill when I see her:love:.

Welcome! I'm in my second year on the forum and I'm still working on an adequate pie pic too.
I wonder if cheese cake would do. Had plenty of that over the holidays.

Didn't get married till 88! Been with Brenda ever since. three great kids, one daughter and two sons, Both sons served as Marines as well. I did not push them into it, They both stood up after 9/11. Damn proud of them and blessed that they came home with out any missing pieces!! Some close friends of ours weren't so blessed . Matt was 1stBN PI, Brian was 2nd BN, I was 3rd BN PI. Tried to get Brenda to enlist so we would have them all covered :)
