6" of snow and it's still coming down
I brought the bikes up from the basement 2 weeks ago when it was 50 degrees and really enjoyed riding after the snow finally melted off the roads.. Last week we got almost a foot of snow and today we are getting 8".. Tomorrow nights temp will be 5 degrees F with more snow on the way. We enjoy our winter sports and will be able to X-C ski some more but dang, I really want to be riding the bike. We sure could have used this snow in Dec, Jan, Feb or March as we had a relatively low snow year. Getting all this snow in April is not very pleasant if you are itching to ride and no, I'm not buying a fat tire bike so I can bust my arse out there.. Meanwhile back East my buddies are already cutting the grass.

Yep, same situation here (SW Ontario): same white garbage falling from the skies, and sub-zero (C) temps. Crap. I hear some saying "Oh, we can't complain, we've had a relatively mild winter" etc. blah blah. Bollocks, says I; I'll complain! Totally irrational (on my part), of course, but there it is.
Meanwhile, Sagan executed a beautiful win in Flanders, and I'm very happy about that -- lousy weather meant I took the opportunity to watch the whole thing, start to finish.

That 1st ride when it was 50 degrees and the roads were dry was really fun. It made me realize how much I missed riding all winter. On occasion I would see a hard core rider out mid Feb/March and wondered how he avoided accidents as the shoulder of the roads had some snow/ice/pot holes etc. not only that but the salt and sand can't be good for the bike and it has to be challenging to dress properly for riding when it's below freezing.

Snow on Wednesday, high of 25 on Friday....I think it's too early to get excited about spring riding. I'm getting the mtb out and going snowriding some more.

How much road salt are people seeing lately? [in Metro Boston]. I'm wondering about putting my other bikes back on the road in March, instead of waiting until April as per usual.
…I try never to ride my pristine CF bike in nasty weather, though cold, and clean roads are fine.…
Yesterday I decided the streets looked clean enough to bring out the carbon fiber and it was great. Streets were salt free, and the rare sand and debris fields at the side were all less than about two feet wide, and I always stay even farther wide from the curb. As an added benefit, it was 43°F, so off with the fleece, balaclava, goggles, and shoe covers, and on with knitted instead of windproof ski gloves.
As noted by many riders with heavy duty beaters and studded tires, riding carbon fiber anew is so smooth...No problem using clipless pedals again either. My hills were much easier, despite the higher gears of the CF, and the stiff head wind was much less discouraging than if on the Beater…However, the studs won’t come off the Beater until at least mid March.
I posted about my first carbon fiber ride of 2015 on March 28.

50+ F here the other day. I went for a long bicycle ride. Cut through a park as a shortcut on the way out. On the way back at night I got to the park and it was a lake. The creek had totally flooded it. It was below freezing and the snow was frozen into ruts. The water was moving fast enough that it didn't freeze. Fortunately my light is always on the bike and that light was bright enough that at slow speed I could just make out the paved trail under the water. It was a really weird day weatherwise.
Cheers

I rode this year in December, January, February and March. In Canada, without snow tires, occasionally even in shorts. That never happens.
And now six inches of heavy, slushy, sloppy white goo.
I want my money back.

We too had an easy winter and I rode in the snow all winter, wrestling with a mountain bike. We will have another 6" (or more) tomorrow night. This is cramping my style.

We were supposed to get 2-4" yesterday, but just got a light dusting. The only problem is, we got dusted several times, yesterday and today, then it keeps melting and freezing, so there's plenty of icy patches. The worst of it is the wind, I have a lot of branches in the back yard again. And the poor birds came back too soon, and now they're freezing. It's generally in the 20s F, before the wind chill. But like someone said, it'll soon be 80F in the shade.

Well, that brief respite that we got in early March served me well in one respect:
Every time, this time-of-year, since I have not ridden a road bike since late September, I break out in a cold sweat when I imagine that when I finally go for a ride, I will gasp and groan after the first few yards, my muscles aching and my bones creaking. I was okay. I passed the "bar exam".
