We're just riding our old bikes. No respect needed. They go like most others. :p

If your bike makes you happy, that's all that matters.

The roadie forum is a freakshow. I post every now and then, sneaking one of my vintage bikes in on an appropriate thread with compliments and kind responses....but never would I post in Hotter-Not. Maybe if my Colnago was a hi-zoot electric shifting 15k bike.

My impression is that you are passionate about your bikes, and I respect that.

Now, I do want to know what percentage of your bikes that are over 20 years old are bike you bought new?

And, that is solely commuting and occasionalhttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=513993http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=513994 short trips.

I think any bike that is ridden as bikes are meant to be are beautiful bikes. Do you have a beautiful bike?

Do you have a link to that posting?

OOOH YEAH. You really ought to do a thread on your trips if you haven't already. Would be great to hear about durability and such with you trip pictures.

I started riding as an adult in 1985 on a Centurion ProTour and it was my only roadie for 12 years (sold only a few years ago to another BF member). A couple of my friends back then had more expensive bikes and were happy to let me borrow, thus I learned the differences in touring and racing frames and many in between. None of the 1980s bikes presently owned were purchased new, as money in those years went toward family interests. The GFisher mountain bike is 25 years with me, the Co-Motion tandem is 19 years with me, the Calfee 17 years, and the Tallerico 12 years - each purchased new. Cycling has genuinely been a life-line for me, as have 2 other hobbies (skiing and hiking). My hobbies are my life for many years now and I am passionate (but not to the extreme) about each of them. And they are relatively inexpensive hobbies.

The 80s bikes currently owned are a reflection of the characteristics of a number of vintage bikes I have had the pleasure to own/ride. Each has its distinct function. My opinion is, if a person is involved in an activity for 31 years, they have the right to some strong personal preferences. Not a luddite though, Campy 10 spd and CF & Ti frames are also in my garage.

For my 100 - 150 miles per week, I see no need for electronic shifting, road discs, 11spd. I'll spend my money on quality tubulars, wool jerseys and other stuff that makes me smile.

For the record = I wave at other cyclists, never put-down any other 2 wheeled conveyances and have no negative opinions on anyone else's choices. With apologies for the extended reply.

Wildwood, that is awesome! I am a mountain biker, and use road bikes just to get somewhere. However, we might see each other on the hiking trails. My wife is a hike leader for Mountainers, and that hobby has slowly become my hobby, too. I love the modern stuff, but I sure wish I had my 1984 Spesh MTB still.

I saw the Mountaineers just sold their property at Snoqualmie Summit. I worked last summer for the Forest Service as a wilderness ranger after years of volunteering. Drillium Dude is also a hiker. I'm gonna try to introduce him to the world of backpacking this summer, maybe. Only YOU can prevent forest fires.

Wildwood, you're attitude is what keeps me coming to the 50+ Forum:thumb:, being around men with the same feelings about bicycling as I do reinforces my commitment to cycling. You're last line in reply #31 sums up things nicely, except for feeling you needed to apologize. There was no need to do so, great response.

Barretscv, that is a cool bike!

This looses stability in rough waters. I still want to know who released the piranha!

I get hideous now and then.
