Yes it's my Birthday today. Looking forward to all the wild and crazy discussions the 50+ crowd partakes in. I took an initial look around the place and still haven't found the washroom ... or the coffee pot

Happy birthday but I am not sure if I should congratulate you for turning 50 or feel sorry for you. Being in the 50+ club is not all it's cracked up to be, lol
Welcome to the club, let the initiations commence!

Rule 1 - You must 'ride your age' today. At 50, you must ride 50 miles. At 62, that means a Metric Century! After 62, you are permitted to ride 'metric', meaning you are permitted to take it easy and start riding kilometers, but expect to take some good-natured ribbing from fellow 50+ forumites if you do...
Rule 2 - Pie Rides are a must. In fact, Birthday Rides can be combined with Pie Rides if you are into celebrating birthday anniversaries. Pie Rides are those ambling rides that may be an out-and-back to your favorite pie shop, or have a pie later, or...

I thought that the years after 50 were all rosy and full of Dairy Queen trips ... I formed my opinion from all the 1980's commercials of Freedom 55, mutual funds that returned 18% guaranteed, and grandpa going to dairy queen whenever he feels like it.

No worries, I'll act like a spoiled child on a frequent basis.
Hold onto those until my 60th ...
Can I eat my cake first?

Well, I'm going to break rule #1 right away. No bike available at my parents. Rule #2 sounds fantastic!
Thanks! Looking forward to it

Yeah, I know you're right. I have worked north of 60 in the winter, but I've endured temperatures just as low as what I saw up there while passing through Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Now you have to go out and get a bike as old as you! Happy birthday, and welcome to the golden age of cycling.

Cool! As it happens, my birthday is also April 9th. Turned 73 today and, oddly, it really don't suck. Wishing you the same next 20 some years of good health, good fortune, and good luck.

Happy birthday to both of you! OP, the new guy has to buy and make the coffee, AND the coffepot, if needed.
