You are among many who seek out obscure segments on days with an abnormal tailwind hoping to capture that all-to-brief moment of feeling inappropriately competent.

I don't even have a cell phone or any sort of i-Thing, so I couldn't OCD on Strava if I wanted to.
Mostly I just Google Map my route, to find out how far I went, after I get back home.

Like everyone else. That's strava. Our routes seem to be picked off by an abundance of snipers. Wind is optional and allowable.

I like to hammer sprints. One was a half-mile stretch on a boardwalk within a 14 mi boogey. Some were riding it just for the sprint and there is a top-ten of significant names. At the end of the season ride I hollered back to my partner "hit it!!" And we did. I made 10th alltime. Doing 32+mph on a bumpy boardwalk with a Cannondale Criterium, things get real blurry.

I just started cycling in August and using Strava in January. So, to answer the OP's question, you're not the only grandfather using Strava, but I do not obsess about it....yet.
I do think it is a good motivating tool and great way to keep track of your rides and improvements. I already have 2 KOM's and many top 10's. Most of our segments are climbs, which are easy for me. The steeper and longer they are, the higher on the segment list I am, still not obsessed about it but fear it is eminent, LOL

I have three grand-kids and I use Strava but like to think I don't OCD about it. I never try for KOM's or even PR's but if I get one I see it when reviewing the ride on Strava, even though I'm not thinking about it when I'm on the ride.
My kids get me the Premium every year for Father's day but I doubt my grand-kids even know what Strava is.
