Urge to pee after hard effort?
Sometimes I have this terrible need to pee after a 100% effort. I could have emptied my bladder 5 minutes before. After an all out effort, I feel a need to go bad. And then I do go and get relief. This has come on over the past couple years, doesn't happen all the time. Any ideas?? My doctor doesn't know and says not to worry about it so I don't, just curious.

My guess is overstimulation or "fight-or-flight" response (sympathetic nervous system).
Your body perceives your extreme effort as a situation where your life is threatened: You can't fight or run with a full bladder, so it seeks to rid itself of urine.
Learn to do some simple (calming) meditations during your extreme cycling efforts. They will not slow you down, and indeed, may aid in recovery time between ascents.
You may just be one of those people who have to make an extra effort to keep the mind/body calm at a deep level during stressful moments. I'm one of them, too.

You did not mention your age but it could be that you are pressing hard on the seat which is pushing on your prostrate which is partially blocking your bladder.......
If you are age 50 or over, talk to your urologist and get checked out.
If you are younger, it could just be from straining your muscles, esp those in your core and abdomen

You might try a prostate relief saddle -- something that just supports the butt bones without pressure on the urethra. Or tilting the saddle nose slightly downward, if your current saddle and seatpost feature those adjustments.

This is a saddle I bought and it has helped me with numbness.

I just checked and it said "no longer available" but there are many others just like it and at least now you have a better idea of what canklecat was talking about. Good luck

My *GUESS* is...
Your 100% effort is causing a rise in your intrathoracic pressure (applying pressure on your bladder) while your saddle is applying external pressure to your prostate. Combined, you're feeling an urge to urinate post activity.
My next *GUESS* is that when you do urinate post activity, the volume is relatively small as compared to your usual routine urination.
In other words -- you're putting pressure on your bladder from two directions and it makes you feel like you gotta pee. When you do, the amount you pee is not very much.
Based on what you've already said, I would take your MD's advice and not worry about it.
