Just over 3 months ago I had a RP. I went for only a 1.3 mile ride a few days ago, and my perineum was very uncomfortable the next day. The saddle is a Brooks B-17 that was very comfortable before the operation . Have any of you experienced this, and if so did a nose less saddle solve the issue ? If not how long did you need before you were able to resume riding without discomfort . I am thinking of returning to my bent if I find no resolution to this problem soon . Idea's ?

You might find relief with one of those saddles with cutouts down the middle, or you may not. it also may be too soon, so a bit of patience might ne called for.

Meanwhile, since you already own a bent, blow the dust off it, and ride that to buy yourself more time to recover without losing too much condition.

May be time for a recumbent. They are far more comfortable and fun any way.

Give it more time! After my RP, my doc said to stay off the bike - including the trainer - for at least six months!

I had a prostatectomy in December and was back to riding 2 months later. I've been riding on saddles with a cutout since about 2003 so didn't have the problem you're having. My saddle is a Selle Anatomica X series.

10 years for me now. I was riding primarily a recumbent at the time of surgery and that is what I rode after for six months or so. Then started spending more time on upright bikes, each with a leather saddle. The Sella Anatomica was a good choice. Now ride what I want.

Of course, I have no experience with this but wanted to wish you a speedy recovery. I imagine that after surgery in that area there will be initial soreness when you first start up. A cutout saddle might be the way to go. I have access to a bike shop that has a saddle library, so ended up trying out different saddles with channels or cutouts down the center. Some of the ones with a groove/channel actually provided more relief than ones with a cutout, so it can be tricky to find just the right one for your particular anatomy.

Well, that has to suck, but not nearly as bad as the alternative. Have a quick & relatively painless recovery.

Stick to the bent until doctor feels that you are good to go on a bicycle. Not wise to rush things!!!! Good luck.

I had focal cryoablation last year for my PCa and was back on bike within 2 days with Foley in place after left side procedure but it took 10 days after right side procedure before getting back to riding.

Thanks for the responses. I'm reading my bent, and plan to use it until I feel I'm able to ride my DF without discomfort . My Urologist said I could ride after only 1 month, so I was disappointed when after 3 months I was unable to do so. So the bent it is for the summer it seems .
