Always fun watching a fellow 50+ take up this great sport.

My story starts with my old running partner from 7th and 8th grades. I found him on facebook two years ago and we decided meet up and go out to breakfast a few times during that first year. Well we had a killer winter of snow and I was posting photos of my driveway after every storm with not a flake of snow on it. I kept begging for more snow. So Dave said that if I stop challenging Mother Nature he would go on a ride with me. I took him up on it, and this was the route we did. Now 8 rides later no walking up the hills our losing breakfast. Great job Dave it's been a blast sharing this great sport with you.

Fantastic! Seems to me we 50+ers own this sport. We raced and toured back in the bike boom heydey and many of us are still going. Good to see you hook up with an old friend.

More than 40 years ago it was a 50-year-old guy (an ex-Marine with a PhD in physics) who convinced me I could do a 12-hour double century. We finished in 12:18, which remains my one big athletic achievement to date.

So it seems; I started as a tourist on a five speed Schwinn Suburban in 1971. Yesterday a colleague was telling me that her husband was taking up cycling, and I told her about MAMILS (Middle-Aged Men in Lycra; though I think cycling keeps us at least "middle-aged" )'

She said he's not not into Lycra, and I replied, "But he will be."

I had nothing to do with it but he shaved his leg's two weeks ago. He said his wife and kid's thinks he's losing it because he now wears lycra and shaves his legs. It's always great to see another one come over the dark side.

Not an all out sprint, more of a seated sprint at 34mph.

Just yesterday (9/9/16, about two months later) I asked my colleague if her husband is into Lycra now. She replied "Well not yet, but he’s looking. He is losing weight and it might fit soon.”

It is merely a matter of time.

Call them "compression shorts" and he'll be all in.
