First ride of the year
Well the year has started off rainy and nasty here in SC. Now that deer season has come to an end it's time to get back into the saddle again. Got my tires pumped up and myself ready to ride only to head to the door and find it pouring out. But it let up after awhile and I was able to get out and get 11 miles in. Was nice to have that wind in my face, the spray from the wet road not so much, all in all a good ride to kick things off for the year! How about you guys anyone else ride today?

Well I had been concentrating on running got bad here in Dec ice, so did not ride last one was Nov 29th. But was nicer yesterday day and did 18 miles. I had ran 5.5 miles or I would have done much more. Today is was raining all day with some icy spots hard to even run but I managed that.

47 miles Sunday the 1st. Very pleasant, cool day and night ride. Some cramping the final 12 miles home so I stopped a couple of times to stretch.
Biggest personal challenge this winter was a sub-freezing ride. We don't get many hard winter days here in this part of Texas, so the first weekend we got a cold snap down in the 20s I took a ride. Made it 10 miles in a leisurely hour pedal at 23F before my fingers were stinging through the insulated gloves and I headed home. I could have gone a bit longer if I'd had some windproof mitten shells. Got my first beard icicle, which was funny.

12/29 was my last ride in 2016 and it was shorten to 30 miles due to a crash. Luckily I didn't land on my new right shoulder joint but did crack the helmet resulting in a slight concussion. Since I have the Mickey Marathon this coming Sunday I decided to stay off the bike as a precautionary move. Well, that wise resolution came to an abrupt end yesterday morning as soon as I hopped on the bike for a slow and careful 51 miler. NOW I am off the bike until after the marathon.

on 1/2/17? yup! so relieved to get out again. it's been weeks, ugh. up here in the "metrowest" Boston area there's lots of wet ice to ride on. it is what it is. gotta make it work. got rain? think about fenders for a cpl months?

Rode the A.T.B. to work today (4M), but some of our smaller, shadier roads are still ice-covered from a recent storm, so had to walk them. 35 degrees for January, though? Who's to complain?
What kind of temps did you get, NA? You use the R600?

Well this week it's in the 60's, but next week it could be 30's hard to say here. Usually 30's - 40's are the high this time of year. I ride the R600 some, but mostly the Anyroad since I got it. The R600 is my trainer bike so it will be getting plenty of use through the winter.

Got 27 miles in on January 1st. A balmy high 70s with strong winds made it a fun ride. The scattered showers stayed to the north, save for about half a mile of wet roads on the northernmost part of the loop, so it was as close to perfect as could be.
This time of year can be quite varied here, but the weather this year facilitated more holiday rides than normal.
