Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

People giving away weeks of their youth, I'll never understand.

Yeah, go ahead and post. There's a 65+ Sticky thread - you can start there if you are in that frame of mind, too. Join the Medicare crowd.

I remember my kids teasing me about turning 40. They would say how does it feel to be 40, and I would say I'm not 40 til next week. And they would respond with well you're practically 40. I'd reply with if I died tomorrow the newspaper would say 39 year old died not 40 year old.
I was holding on as long as I could. Personally I'd hold off on being 50 if I was the OP too.

The bother for me was recuperating the next day. It was the biggest and best (surprise) birthday bash my wife has ever thrown me!

Man aint that the truth. I am 54 and picked up bicycling recently after several years of a desk job and sedentary living. I got fat, my cholesterol is up, and my blood pressure is up. When I was in my 30's and in good shape I went to give blood and my resting heart rate was 38, now it's in the 80's. I used to ride centuries. When I first started this time I was just going to ride 10 miles, but I couldn't do it. I started riding by time doing 30 minutes, 3 days on and 1 day off. Yesterday I decided to do 40 minutes and I thought I was gonna die! It was so hot and humid. I actually had to stop and lay down in somebody's lawn for a few minutes. It was never this hard before.

For bothering us months early, you're banished until you turn 51.

We can be bribed with pie though.

I i was expecting someone to come out of the house to see if I was okay but I guess nobody was home. It didn't matter though, I was in some serious pain and couldn't go another inch without a breather.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Sure, just lie about your age, the same way people lie about their riding prowess.

Or don't bother lying, because nobody cares. This sub forum is mostly about age related issues (very loosely defined), so if these interest you welcome. After all, we're all as old as we feel.

I for instance am well (very well) past 50, but often feel I'm too young to be here.

Aww diddums. Not 50 until August. You bookmark this thread for when you turn 60.

Of course, if you'd just shut up and joined in, no-one would have noticed but we all know your secret now. I guess that's old age cunning catching out youthful inexperience.

Well, they say age is only a number.

But for 50+ cyclists I say age is a stiff back and knees in the morning, regardless of whether you rode the day before or not.

Age is wondering if cycling glasses are available with progressive or bifocal lenses (tri-focals in my case).

Age is trying to discern if that click or creak is coming from your bicycle or from your body.

Age is finding a severely sloping top-tube or even a mixte an attractive option.

Age is considering a recumbent due to back or prostate issues.

Age is knowing the difference between the words "prostate" and "prostrate".

Age is switching from "masher" to "spinner".

Age is obsessing over nutrition and supliments as much as if you were in training; except, you're not in training.

Age is wishing the default font on bikeforums was larger.

Welcome, astrodust. +1 on the colonoscopy.
