2018 Goal / YTD
2018 , Goal is over 3000
Got 599 mi as of today. Stats I watch: Averages: speed 13.1, HR 136 Cadence 78 Yea , I’m slow, last year avg speed was12.6. |
2018 Goal = Ride my bikes as often and as far as I feel like on that day.
Too busy with winter activities, so I haven't felt like it much lately. |
My 2018 Goals are here:
https://www.bikeforums.net/long-dist...ing-goals.html So far, we've got 4 months of the PYRR challenge done. And 2 CAMs. And a 200K of the SR series. And a cycling tour. And I've run a 10K. And I'm up to 1141.8 km (709.5 miles). I think that's all so far. |
Soon to be 74,have been biking for 30 plus years and all my goals have been done. Now I just ride with my friends. Last year 5550 miles. Life is good!
|
I set my goal for 2,500 miles. Given that I'm already at 354.6 miles and February isn't done (doing a 200K tomorrow), I'm sure I will smash that goal. I never expected that I'd ride so much in the winter months (I live in northern Illinois) but the right gear along with chasing a RUSA P-12 (100K populaire for 12 consecutive months) has gotten me out a lot more than I planned.
|
My annual goal every year is 2500 miles. There are also two charity rides in state that I've never done and I would like to try them. I teach at a university, so my workload is not distributed evenly throughout the year, leaving me much more time to ride during the summer months, when the weather is better anyhow. Normally I try to ride at least 150 miles per month Jan. - Apr., then 300 miles per month May - Aug., and back to 150 miles per month Sep. - Dec. This year though, between work and bad weather I'm still at less than 150 miles for Jan. and Feb. I'll have quite a bit a catching up to do over the summer. In June I'll be teaching a summer school course about 35 miles from where I live. I suppose if I commuted by bike I could make up those missing miles pretty quickly.

Living in Florida, being retired and having a wife that rides is almost perfect. I never get hounded about how much time I spend on a bike so my cycling addiction can get all the time it needs. I really don't set goals but I do set miles for my daily rides; which fall between 40 and 60 miles, 6 days a week. Last month was the coldest January we've had since 2010, so my miles for last month, 503 miles, was about half of what I normally ride. Right now, I'm at 1,403 miles with 100 miles away from a 1,000 mile month. I don't know what I'll end up with this year as we are doing a month vacation in Italy later this year. Last year I ended up with 11,456 miles. I'll just keep the pedals turning and the wheels rolling and wait and see.
|
My goal is 4000 miles. I'm ahead of the game with 605 miles YTD.
I'm also tracking my FTP value, which is up 7% from a year ago. My weight is down 14%. My power/weight has improved by a little more than 25% in the last year. I'd like to achieve an additional 15% improvement in my power to weight ratio in 2018. |
Same as last year -- no particular mileage goals. Just ride farther than I intended to when I feel like it. Ride at least a little when I don't feel like it, because it almost always makes me feel better. Just doing that I increased from 1,600 miles in 2016 to nearly 5,000 miles last year.
I do plan to get back to high intensity interval training soon and improve a bit on my nemesis -- hill climbs. That's where I usually get dropped on relatively fast group rides. So I'd like to finish, or at least hang on a bit longer before getting dropped. Speed alone isn't a useful metric for me because it varies according to the route I ride, climbs, wind, etc. I don't use a power meter but do compare Strava's estimated power. The main problem with most power metrics is they don't usually include the effect of wind. So my fastest times on some segments should show lower power estimates because they were wind assisted. Some of my slowest times should have much higher power estimates because of the fierce head wind the past few months. That's why group rides are a reasonable gauge for progress. We're all facing the same conditions on any particular ride. So if the group is averaging 17 mph on one ride without significant wind, and I get dropped because I can only sustain 16 mph, that feels slow. But if the same group is averaging 12 mph on a windy day and I'm hanging on, it seems fast. |

Goal of 5000 miles for 2018. I’m well on my way with 32 miles! LOL. I don’t count my spinning classes, but if I did, could add another 700-800. When winter starts to go away, look out. 😊
|
my goal is monthly. shoot for 400 miles a month. could vary up from that but try to get 400 as a minimum
|
3000 mile goal for the year. 490 so far. Hope to do a century also.

2018 Goal / YTD :) |
Since much of my riding is commuting in one form or another, I mix the goals and expectations.
Hawever my target is 7300 miles or averaging 20 miles a day. A little over 1000 miles now. I should make up the difference this summer. |
My only planned goal(s) was to keep riding through the winter and stay in reasonably good shape so I don't spend all spring and summer getting my legs back. Almost 500 miles so far in 2018 (This including two weeks off the bike because of flu)which has required riding in cold weather, sometimes below freezing and some rides in cold misting drizzle.
My only goals going forward, if you want to call it that, is to ride as often and as long as I can, and I'd like to do a couple overnight ride/camping trips and maybe a one week tour. |
Shooting for another 4,000+ mileage year. Pretty skimpy numbers so far in 2018 but will ramp up soon. Rode to work today for the first time this year.
|
970.40 miles so far in 2018. No mileage goal just see what happens by years end.
|
Just had the mileage goal discussion with my daughter last night. My goal for this year is lower than last year as I have taken up a renewed interest in photography and will devote more time to it than last year. If I do 2000 this year it will be more than expected.
|
Shooting for 6000 mi this year. Did a bit over 5000 last year, so feel it is reasonable. 650 miles so far this year, so need to get to pedaling to get on track.
bought a new Specialized Roubaix Elite and want to justify the cost with more riding in my mind. Wife encourages my riding, so not a problem there. |
Strava has my 2017 total at 11,000+ miles. Entering 2018 I set no distance goal other than a few organized rides. Currently at 1,500+ miles for 2018 but a recurrence of my Prostate Cancer could put a big dent in continued riding.

YTD? Ok, from above the 45th near Mackinaw City...I do well just getting out there with my snowbike. How about “what was the coldest temp you rode this year”? Glad you asked... -2f. That’s what I call a nose-sticker. We did bottom out at -40 which put me on the evening news, most likely coldest in the nation. But I do get out there.
For 2018? The Cannondale Criterium will roll. I just want to do more than last year with all it’s wonderful distractions. |
360 miles for February, an acceptable distance considering the weather in St. Louis this year. 745 miles YTD.
|
242 miles for February bringing me to 483 miles of the year. Considering we started February with 9 consecutive days of measurable snowfall (total accumulations 19 inches), I'm pretty happy with what I managed to fit in. Also got just over 10 miles of snowshoeing over 3 days thanks to the snowy streak!
|
3,000 miles but I'm getting a late start!
