Lucky Easter Ride

Well here in Central Illinois it can be cold in April and windy but after Mass this morning I went out at 11am for a 43 mile ride. It was cold about 34 degrees but no wind. At about the 2 hour mark there were snow flurries and I thinking I getting pretty cold not going to get 50 today. So I get in and think I did ok right. Well the day progressed and we now have a snow storm and a few inches of snow on the ground.

Where is spring these days and wow was I lucky I happen to start the ride when I did because it looked fine at first. This winter is never going to end I have not road outside once when it was even about 50 hardly.

We’ve finally gotten a brief reprieve from the cold in NC but it seems to have taken its sweet time to get here. It was sunny and 70+ degrees for my 62 miler today. It was neat seeing a lot of families outside their homes with some even sitting around in chairs and actually talking to each other like days gone by.

We had a nice morning, but cold for this time of year (in the thirties), so I lolly-gagged around until the early afternoon for a nice ride with temperatures in the low fifties and a very pleasant on-again, off-again drizzle. It's been a reasonable Spring so far, with a less than normal amount of rain (normal is a lot, so less than normal is far from dry).

Every time I look at the weather, there seems to be something happening on the east side of the country. I'm just glad I'm not there. It's been rather nice on the west coast all year.

Northern Illinois for me. My 68 mile ride started at 28 degrees. It was 34 degrees when I finished. I was never warm, just less cold at times. It didn't help that I was making a lot of stops to make notes on the cue sheet I'm working on for this populaire that I'm planning to submit.

I hear tales that people ride bikes in just shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. With the way our weather has been, I've been in layers since October for all of my rides.

Showed up to my group ride yesterday raring to go after 54F and sunny on Saturday. It was 31 degrees 15 minutes before the start and only one other rider had shown up. When it started to snow just after I got there, that was it for me; "see ya".

We pushed 80F the last couple of days. Be patient, after spring leaves us it'll head north towards you!

I'm right there with ya, Deacon. I'm in Bloomington, and we got the snow big time on Easter. Solution? I pulled my fat bike out for one last romp in the snow (hopefully) until late fall.

There HAVE been some pleasant days this past month; my daughter and I have done a couple of longer rides through the McLean County countryside this past month. Hang in there; soon we will be complaining about the heat...
