My body might be in the prone position while on the 'bent but the 'bent is still vertical therefore I am vertical, not splayed out on the ground. :D

I totally agree. I like challenges too, but to me the point is to find joy in the process of preparation and training. In today's world, it is so easy to become fixated on outcomes only, and that is often robbing people of the consistent "joy" we all need to experience to be happy.

My older brother started riding a few years ago. He rides nearly every day. But, he goes out and hammers as fast as he can for an hour so he can get it over with and move on to something else. I guess it works for him, but that is so contrary to my approach to biking. I suppose I am fortunate in that I actually enjoy the act of riding a bike!

edit: …..but in a 65+, 'safety first', 'no downhill bombing' kinda way - lately.
So, maybe, Self-Induced Speed Thrills.

Hahaha!!! :thumb:

Totally agree, I'm a photo guy, need to capture the moment!

Eff it. I'm going anyway.

There are some great thoughts here. "Is my bike OK?" kinda sums things up as well.

I don't know ... I'm still looking for challenges. :)

Come to Wisconsin next September - a 60 mile loop over mid-Wisconsin rolling hills, 4000 feet of climbing.

Probably not a challenge for you, but ... I think the distance will be fine for me by that time, but I will need to work on the climbing.

True!!!

But I'm sort of thinking of nice things ... like a 100 km ride in the countryside. :)

See my other post, and the thread "Do This!" It's a 100 km ride in the countryside, with 4000 feet of climbing.

Our typical rides around our house in Piedmont NC are 3000’ of hills over 60 miles. No long or steep hills but lots of rolling hills scattered throughout the ride. It’s actually nice as it allows some coasting as needed.

I’ve thought about driving up and doing Dairyland Dare (I think that’s the name) one day but we’ll see.....Riding around where I live was great prep for my XC trip as the average climbing per day was probably half what I normally do. But there were several days with a good bit of climbing. Oregon, Yellowstone and NY.....
