we’ve had 50’s and rain … for days … :(

not complaining too much however because I’m currently on IR with a bum knee :(

pepperbelly 05-23-25 11:28 PM

I can finally stop complaining about the cold! 😎
now, if it will stop storming and blowing.

t2p 05-31-25 09:03 AM

55 degrees and rain this morning :( and windy :(

low in the mid 40’s this evening :(

might be more bummed if I was not resting a bum knee :(

it will be clearing and in the mid 60’s tomorrow and low 70’s Monday … might get in a short easy ride (despite the knee issue) one of those days

the good news is with the frequent rain the crushed limestone trails are not dusty :)

Desert Ryder 05-31-25 03:08 PM

Just after 2 pm and we're sitting at 105 degrees today. I haven't quite gotten used to 100+ temps so it's a stay inside and watch a movie afternoon.

Desert Ryder 05-31-25 03:24 PM

This summer I'm going to try out the misting hydration pack I picked up for a good deal.

62 degrees and sun yesterday - nice day - but cold for this time of year

most of our ride was in shade and often next to a rock cut and near a creek for majority of the ride so it actually felt cooler

supposed to be in the mid 80’s in a couple of days

Appears we have a change in the near future from cool, cloudy, and rain

They’re calling for 112 today. I went to the gym to get some indoor miles in, until the fire alarm went off and they evacuated the place. I figure with that heat the place just spontaneously combusted.

When the weather sets off fire alarms you know it’s time to stay home and hide! 😄

have not been able to confirm - but was told Danny Chew set off a smoke detector / fire alarm riding a trainer in the basement of his house … apparently the rear tire began to smoke

as far fetched as it seems - would not surprise me

he had a top ten finish in the USPRO cycling championships (12th according to wiki ?), 1st place Mt Evans junior hill climb, and was a two time RAAM (Race Across America) winner - never finished lower than fourth

he once rode from Pittsburgh to Iowa in four days - entered and won a 24 hour race - and then rode back to Pittsburgh

As many are now experiencing, we're (Louisville KY) are now experiencing low toward mid 90s for the next week, with humidity to match!
Quite a change after our spring monsoon season came to a close. Hoping to accumulate soon. Was soaking wet after cutting our 2 acre lawn yesterday (lots of areas that must be cut with a walk behind to not throw grass into the wife's flower gardens!) If your weather has become similar and you're riding, remember to stay hydrated!!

spclark 06-22-25 07:04 AM

Yah, I stayed inside yesterday, pondered a return to my trainer while this bubble of hot, humid air persists.

91°F for the high yesterday, THI 100 & S WINDS 23 - 37mph! YES it was a WINDY DAY in the Driftless!!

Today's looking marginally worse, with a change predicted in tomorrow's prognostications but not until after I've worked most of my regular 8 - 5-ish shift.

Likely be on trainer today; right now I have to go water my veggies & flowers, see what the various critters might have et overnight.

I got a ride in yesterday before it hit 90 in NYC, but the next few look to be out of the question. Tuesday is supposed to be the hottest at about 100, but today and tomorrow also high 90s.

Be careful in this much heat and humidity.
We are used to it here in Texas and the rest of the South but we still have to be cautious.

I won't even consider going out in this.

I was out this morning around 9. It was 80° and about 73% humidity.
It wasn’t exactly pleasant but I need to get summer acclimated. It’s going to be like this for a while- maybe with a little less humidity.

t2p 06-25-25 03:02 PM

house furnace / AC filter was changed recently - car cabin air filters were changed

but I can’t find my internal body filter to change … :(

yikes it gets nasty after noon

Maybe tomorrow I can ride again.

At least there are a few months per year where left upper coastal USA gets to smile big-time on our rides. :)

Today was 74* and dry
Thurs = 67* maybe an afternoon light shower
Fri = 70* low clouds
Sat = 74* am clouds, sunny afternoon
Then 5 days of low 80's - maybe a sprinkle one day.

Actually - we could use a wetter than normal Summer, which is not forecasted. :o
Nothing wrong with a gray summer sky, IMHO.

Remember - Winter is coming, days getting shorter, but 15hrs58min between sunrise & set today.

pepperbelly 06-25-25 09:26 PM

I really feel for our members in the middle of the country and the northeast.
Here in Texas and most of the South and Southwest this heat is normal and expected. Y’all can’t be ready for this.

our avg high and low temps for this time of the year are around 81 and 61 - but it’s been around 91 and 71 :(

typically - when we have temps in the 90’s the grass will not grow much and will not need to be cut (often) - but we had cooler temps and a lot of rain before this heat wave so still gotta cut the grass :(

not a lot - but soon I will see leaves begin to fall … wild cherry tree will often begin to lose some leaves relatively early

Our summer temps are usually 95°+ for the high and 80° for the low. When we get into the 100° weather it stays 100° until after 10pm.
Our problem is we just don’t get any relief at night.
