I got snowed on in Jackson, MT on June 22nd. Had to hole up at a hot springs resort for the weekend and change my route because of 6-7” of snow predicted in the mountains where I was supposed to go. At least there was an outdoor pool fed by a natural hot spring, a bar, and a restaurant. And some nice views Monday morning.

Summer goal it just to survive. Restarting my cycling endeavors in the Fall. The bike bug has returned after a few years doing other sports.

Riding in Texas, especially during the summer months, is to be highly commended - even from a survival perspective.

For the OP: Very achievable goal, 10% of body weight. Price out what a 20lb lighter bike would cost ($!$1!) and realize you are being paid that much to lose that weight. As for going from 10 t0 12 average speed, I think you will find that quantity breeds quality. As you ride you will be sliding downhill towards you twin goals.
Good luck!

I was averaging about 8 MPH on my Verve…put new tires on (45’s to 40’s), my average MPH now is 10. My goal is to get to that 12 mph mark as well. Thinner tires might help…maybe. And loose 10 pounds by November 1.
