Morning after ride.

Yesterday afternoon we had a work party cutting hedges. 4 hours of strenuous work up the top of a 20ft ladder. This morning I did not feel like a ride and neither did my co-rider on the Tandem, whose hedge we had been cutting. We settled on an easy ride to just gently work the muscles and hopefully get some stiffness out of the limbs. Lets have a road ride instead, but as this would take in some offroad aswell, we decided that we might as well do our normal run but take it easier.

After a couple of miles we hit the offroad, and it seemed hard work, more effort to put in to get through the scree that is on this path, just to make it easier. Looked at the HRM and heart rate was as it would normally be, so carry on. Then the first hill and were we glad that we had decided to get up on the hills. The weather was fantastic, the scenery breathtaking ,as usual, and evn the cattle were taking advantage of the path by lying in the middle of it. We steamed up that hill. We had to. it was so slippery that slow speed was not an option if we wanted to keep traction.Quick blast over the top and even the downhill seemed fun this morning. We are normally fast at Downhills, but in the slippery conditions about, we were going to take it easy. No need as the wheels stayed in line, unless braking, so no brakes and let it roll. Then the next uphill. average 10% for 1 mile and pure slippy chalk covered with a film of clay. We did come off once up here but only at 6 mph so no damage. Down into Eastbourne for coffee and we were on our way again. Last bit was on the road, and the wind got up to about 30mph- but behind us all the way home.

Next time I feel like an easy ride- I'll go on my own. By our normal times we steamed this ride, and all I have to do is keep working this afternoon. Those muscles are stiffer than first thing this morning, so I think I'll wander down to the bottom of the garden and see if the hammock still works.
