Exploring the southern Platte River Trail near Littleton, Colorado.
The incident:
Today, my wife and I rode on the Platte River Trail. It was wonderful, BUT . . . one of the pics below shows Paneras where we stopped for lunch. It was there that I checked my messages by cell phone, and found that a credit card company had called and wanted us to call them urgently. Okay, I did, and found that there had been "unusual activity" on one of the credit cards that we actually never have used. I guess that it being used was "unusual."
Oh, oh. The immediate thought was that someone had broken a window into our car and taken my wife's purse.
Yes, that was what happened, after I hightailed it back to the parking lot. Right window broken. Credit Cards, check book, driver's license, purse and wallet, neat coat, some Rx drugs - including one controlled drug. My wife was not feeling wello, or she would have taken her wallet with us.
We called the Sheriff who promptly came out. During the interim, we madly tried to contact all the appropriate parties to stop payment on everything. This with no credit card numbers nor phone numbers. And, for some reason, we had lousy cell phone coverage. Anyway, we managed to contact everyone, fill out the theft report, etc. We figure that they had about 1.5 hours before we got hings stopped, and in that time, they managed to spend about $4,000 - including 10 purchases at Wal Mart. I guess that no one actually checks credit cards.
We had our house rekeyed tonight, closed the two bank accounts, arranged for the repair of the window, etc. All of this will cost a bundle. The car keys have the computer chips in them and the remotes were stolen, so we will have to have everything on the cars rekeyed (insurance will pay for it). We have made arrangements to have the window replaced.
The trail
Anyway, prior to the mess, we took several pictures of the trail. This trail goes from the south side of Chatfield Dam/Reservoir State Park about 45 miles north to 104th street, going through downtown Denver. On the entire trail, there are only four road crossings, each of them being a hardly used road, with one exception. Along the way, there are 8 east west trails, each from 10-25 miles in length, and of the same quality.

A bicycle traffic circle - no kidding. This is a heavily used trail on weekends. There are two at trail intersections.

Dnvr, Nice looking trail. Here in wi you do not get paved bike trails,they are usually crushed limestone. Not a bad surface to ride, however, you usually find some sandy spots or gopher holes which can add a little excitement. To bad about the breakin of the car but difficult to protect ypurself 24/7 no matter how hard you try.

Sorry your gorgeous day was marred by ****. You and your wife seem to be accomplished "copers"....but it is still depressing and frustrating to deal with creeps. The only consolation is that you and your wife will get back on track and continue with your fulfilling lives while the jerks who robbed you will go back to whatever hole they crawled out of...hopefully for a reckoning someday. We all need to start packing cameras and sharing sweet moments from our rides.
