I was going to respond to this thread.

Then I decided not to.

Then I changed my mind.

Then I changed my mind again.

And then again.

And so it goes.

Now I can't even remember if I'm responding to this thread, or not.

That's not a function of my age; it's a function of how old I am.

If I had my faculties about me, I'd say that I actually enjoyed the thread in the Singlespeed forum; it made me laugh out loud. Furthermore, I'd suggest that Big Paulie was egging us on to do something similar to produce a few laughs. After that, I'd say that lots of responders got their knickers twisted in a knot and the thread went off in a different direction. Then, I'd remember that I needed more coffee and what I have at the moment is getting cold.

That's if i had my faculties about me. Right now, I think they're in another room, but if I go check on that, I'll probably forget why I went in there in the first place.

Which reminds me -- I haven't ridden my singlespeed in a while. Maybe I'll take Lucky out for a spin this morning. Thanks for the suggestion! :D

I almost didn't but the "bird" is something that I have to deal with every single day at work and I thought that I'd share my experience. Isn't that what my original post said?

Uh - why do you ask?

Most of those in the 50+ forum are active, busy, goal oriented folks - much like those in the rest of the bicycling forum. We do a lot of things that folks would think we might not do. I rode the 353 mile Ride the Rockies at age 58 (my first year of "real" bicycling), "jppe" rides hundred mile+ rides over tremendously steep slopes weekly, stapfam in England does amazing mtn bike tandem rides, etc., etc.

We also have a major 50+ forum mission of encouraging folks in the 50+ age group to reenter the world of physical activity, and spend a lot of effort in encouragement in so doing. Folks like Digital Gee, who have gone from riding a few miles to regular 50-60 mile rides and many others can attest to that.

Personally, I think the original thread was an unnecessary thread, and I haven't encouraged the original thought line. Perhaps it can be of some value?

Have a great day!

I'm glad that you guys are able to do those things- as I said before, I hope that's what I am doing at that age. My great uncle is in his late 80s and still rides his bike. My dad is only a few years younger than you and has recently rediscovered cycling, riding the cross bike I built for him all over Northern Wisconsin and riding fixedgear bikes with me when he visits Chicago. He's the one who encouraged me to ride in the first place. The fanaticism that the FG/SS forum shows is a manifestation of not just age, but of a love of cycling, which if they maintain will make them healthy later in life.

Great

Tell your dad to drop in the 50+ forum.

We are very friendly, and the chatter is interesting and frequently amusing. We have some great writers.

Thank you for summing up my feelings in a nutshell. Somebody is a bad ass. Somebody is a big ass and somebody is giving somebody the finger. Meanwhile, I've got a pile of work on my desk. Holy crap.

You might be surprised. We've had time to pick up a lot of skills. Personally, I was doing advanced computer graphics before you were born. My bike still has its Information International, Inc. parking sticker. :D

Completely agree. 20 years ago I was doing fairly advanced work on an Amstrad 1512 computer. Even advanced for todays computers. Give any computer user an old computer with no memory, poor graphics and see what they do with it. Bin it probably as it does not work. Incidentally- I still have the Amstrad, and still run DOS programmes on it that I wrote many years ago. Those DOS programmes have been updated to run in "Windows" but I still like to keep the originals around to remind youngsters that things used to be difficult and long winded. Bit like me really.

This is a cycling forum, and I would like to see some of the other forums have interesting threads running- Ones that catch my attention and keep me interested. That is the joy of this group. We are mostly of a like mind, All enjoy cycling, can all relate to others problems and offer advice where necessary. Now where did I put my Zimmer so I can get out to the bike and do another 50 miler offroad before the weekend.(night riding on the Tandem of course as I don't have the advantage of being retired)

Don't know about you Artmo but it makes me tired. I just came in from a 25 mile ride on my fixed gear bike and on updating my journal I see that I have ridden it 179.74 miles this month.... I'm gonna have a beer and a nap.

Dogbait (also 60+)

Oh yeah. .... photoshop

Yeah, right..... we're just a bunch of dumb old pharts who can't hardly even do email. I don't know if Paul Allen, Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak are bikers but if they are they would be on the 50+ forum. Being a poor old retired guy on a fixed income, I can't afford Photoshop and I don't have an employer to steal it from so I have to get by with cheaper software.

Dang, I hope the mods don't move any of my posts. If I get any more senile, I won't be able to find them in the 50+ forum, much less anywhere else...

Dchiefransom 03-16-06 10:28 PM

I had to stop reading before I used up the battery in my pacemaker from laughing so hard !!! It was only a matter of time before the classic pancake appeared on top of the guy's head.
If I put my pic on here, it would only be a matter of time before the paramedics showed up at my door, saying someone had called and reported a terrible accident.

I'm with NOS88--the best thing about not being 25 is that I don't give a s**t what people think about me, my bike, my bike clothing, my politics or much of anything else. I was a flaming @$$hole when I was 25 and I outgrew it; I assume they will, too. If not, I still don't give a s**t what they think.

Very possibly, but at least one of us here have been teaching Photoshop at the college level for a number of years now; and has been using it for quite a bit longer. Chances are some of those youngsters learned it from one of us.

Too late, it's been done. Sometimes you don't even need Photoshop.
