Fifty Plus Forum Image Makeover???
abcd
|
Wait a minute......I got my poor little thread (I wanted to sell/trade something to another 50Plusser) bumped from here and moved by the mods.........and that noxious thread grinds on for 32 pages!! Perhaps we'd be better served if jppe took his Replace the Madone Bike money and bought us our own server. ;)

I think the mods should leave us old timers alone. If someone wanted to post a message to another group, then he or she would post a message to another group.
How's that for crotchety? :) |

I gotta tell ya.... I could care less what others in the "cycling world" think of me or people who are 50+. I mean, I know who I am, what I am, and what I was. I also know that the "younger" group, if they are very lucky, will get to the 50+ group eventually. So, I don't pay much attention to the follies of youth. Rather, I flourish in the joy of being who and what I am today. No need for a make over IMHO. |
If you really are trying to change yourselves off that one thread, I really really REALLY feel for you.

We've been there, done that. Hell, some of us even survived Viet Nam. We are the bad asses of the cycling world. Just don't need to advertise it.

That SS/FG thread may have been mean spirited for a page or two. Now it has become its own "in-joke." We keep reading it and adding to it not because we are trying to humiliate anyone, but rather because we are poking fun at eachother and the thread itself. I highly doubt that anyone is offended by our silly photoshop game.

Go and take a peek on some of the submissions, most of them are not mean at all and some are quite artful.

It's cause we're 50+ and hopefully past the "young and dumb" stage.
I drive a school bus and, trust me, the middle schoolers know all about the finger. My advice is always the same: That one little finger didn't hurt you very much. Now, it's entirely up to you how much power you are going to give him. If you display all manner of being upset, you give him all manner of power over you. Laugh it off and you take that same power back for yourself. It's entirely your choice. |
You guys have absolutley no idea what you're talking about in regards to that thread.

I doubt that very many of you know how to use Photoshop as well as the youngsters over in that thread.
|
Stupidity, unfortunately, is age-independent. You have to fight it forever...

I think you're missing the point of that thread. We're being silly and playing with a silly picture. Look up "meme" in wikipedia and you'll get an idea of what is happening in that thread. |

03-16-06, 07:30 AM Keep your eye on it as it grows in responders. photoshop tennis is a fun way to kill time, and you seem to be fixating on the mean-spirited first page or two. If that thread bothers you, you are taking yourself far to seriously. I think it's great that you are trying to change your image, but unless you are trying to get better at Photoshop, wtf does it have to do with Nathan Fabian? |

I am not responding to and have not responded to anything except your statement that you have the boring desk jobs and we are retired. I have made absolutely NO comment on your "finger" thread, which, IMHO, is sort of amusing. Please reread the thread. You have me confused with someone else, or have somehow attributed their ideas to me. Have a great and enjoyable day at your desk job. Sorry about that. Wish you could be bicycling. Incidentally, I have been doing a home study on photoshop. I wish I was as good as you guys! |

I'm 60+ and have just been riding my Bianchi Pista. What does that make me? :)

We have 50+'rs who are in all sorts of career fields - actually, only a few of us are "retired" - I am one of them at 66yo, and have been retired for only 1 year, and am currently in training to be a personal trainer working with the "senior" population. Most of those in the 50+ forum are active, busy, goal oriented folks - much like those in the rest of the bicycling forum. We do a lot of things that folks would think we might not do. I rode the 353 mile Ride the Rockies at age 58 (my first year of "real" bicycling), "jppe" rides hundred mile+ rides over tremendously steep slopes weekly, stapfam in England does amazing mtn bike tandem rides, etc., etc. We also have a major 50+ forum mission of encouraging folks in the 50+ age group to reenter the world of physical activity, and spend a lot of effort in encouragement in so doing. Folks like Digital Gee, who have gone from riding a few miles to regular 50-60 mile rides and many others can attest to that. Personally, I think the original thread was an unnecessary thread, and I haven't encouraged the original thought line. Perhaps it can be of some value? Have a great day! |
