Does your bike have a name?
I'm in the LBS and the youthful girl who is works there is helping me find some new "stuff" and she wants to know if it has to match in color to which I reply that "of course it does, and I don't ride with people who don't name their bikes". This of course gives her a chuckle or two and she asks me the name of my touring bike and I tell her. She sort of ho-hums and looks at me as if I am a bubble off-center and we go along to another topic. A few minutes later I ask her if her bike has a name and she promptly responds "Eddy".
So my question is, does your bike have name? Proud Owner of "Captain Marcy" "Little Puddin" "Pygmy" |
No, have a hard enough time remembering the names of people I meet. I don't think I could accomodate additional names for my bikes. But.... If I did, I'd probably struggle with deceiding if it was going to be a male or female name.

Silver, Blue, Blackie and my six year-old's is Flame. Mine all seem to answer to Dammit though.

Proud Owner of "Captain Marcy" "Little Puddin" "Pygmy" Hmmmm, I wonder which name gave her pause... Anyway, I shouldn't talk. Trek 520; "the Bronze" after it's colour and in honour of my favourite TV show. Raleigh Century: "Rubeus" because it's twice as heavy as a normal bike. |
My current ride ('03 Cannondale R600) is "Lucille". This came from the movie "Cool Hand Luke" where George Kennedy, upon seeing a sultry woman began chanting "Lucille, Lucille,...". When someone inquired how he knew what her name was, he replied, "anything that looks that good's just got to be named Lucille".
Building up a Look frame currently which I'm thinking of naming "Lady" so that that I can her "Lady Look"! |
My Schwinn Prelude is the 'Lude, for the feeling I get when I jump on it and head into oblivion with a strong tail-wind...

We've dubbed our new tandem "Valentine" for the following reasons:
1) It's a bicycle built for two 2) It's bright red, with matching red bottle cages 3) After working with the LBS for weeks, we finally came to agreement on price and options on 2/14. Naturally, we had to go buy matching red helmets and gloves. The wife also wanted shoes, but I had to draw the line there since we both have a perfectly good pair and the ones she found were pricey! |

Now that is the problem as instead of only having the wallet large enough for a new cycling top or helmet- it has to be twice as thick to get matching pairs. Going back to Bike names-Will have to think of a better name for the Tandem- It is Hard- Likes to be treated rough-Likes to play dirty- and costs a fortune to keep running-Any Suggestions? |
I'm thinking of naming my two new coasters Click and Clack... :)
|
How about "Good Ship Lollipop"?
|
I refer to them all by model name, Everest, Super Comp etc. but when I am riding any one of them its designation automatically becomes Ground Force One.

Mimi
Many of you already have read posts about the French woman in my life: "Mimi." She is eighteen years younger than I, but she is oh so comfortable and eager to please. She's compliant, long-legged and doesn't mind a long ride. She's was born in France in 1968 at the Peugeot bicycle works as a U08.
I love her and she makes my wife only a little bit jealous. Lately, though, Mimi has been acting like the typical female and insisting that I spend a little more money on her. I will, but that's for a different post. Tyson |
My bikes earn their names.....
My Airborne..... after my third crash with her I was checking her over for damage(and there was none, again.)..... maybe it was the wind.... but I thought I heard, "You can call me Chistine". So I do. My Bianchi? Well she is Italian, and it seems that she gets what ever she wants, so I call her Lola. Because whatever Lola wants, Lola gets. My new 'bent? Hasn't earned it's name yet....... |
My wife started it by calling her bike "Boyfriend". Before a ride, she tells me to go make her boyfriend hard...
