What does CAAD mean?
Canondale seems to use this acronym a lot, but even on their website, I can't find anything that explains it. Care to enlighten me? And what does the number after it mean, or is it just a model number?

I think it stands for Cannondale Advanced Aluminum Design. What does that actually mean? I have no idea. And I own a Cannondale.

Ha, Rocco!
By the way, I didn't misspell Cannondale in the OP. Someone stole the "n" when I posted. I hate when people do that. Get your own "n's."

I think it is their own play on words for Computer AAided Drafting. Too many acronyms in the same industry.

TREK doesn't pretend it's bike names mean anything - Madone, Domane, Edmona - just playing anagrams to make nice sounds.

The '3' is just which iteration of the CAADs the frame is. The first was CAAD, then CAAD2 (which had more radically shaped tubes), then CAAD3 (further tube refinements), CAAD4... etc... I think they are at CAAD10 now.

i've been wondering about this bike i scored some months back, i swapped a mountain bike for it.
caad3 could be early 2000s, i also got no idea what year it is and the sigificance of the model, its got Saeco macchine Da caffe written on the top tube
the bike is awefully pretty

From Wikipedia:
In 1992 Cannondale introduced the 2.8 series frame based on CAD (computer aided design) and finite element analysis to make a frame weighing only 2.8 lbs. The 2.8series featured a tapered large diameter down tube, double-offset bottom-bracket cluster, ovalized top-tube, and double-butted seat tube to achieve the weight reduction. The same year the 1.25" Sub One all aluminum fork was introduced. [SUP][13][/SUP] [SUP][14][/SUP]
Cannondale marketed subsequent frames with the CAAD designation (for "Cannondale Advanced Aluminum Design") which first appeared in their mountain bike frame series. In 1997 the CAAD3 road frame was introduced featuring most of the design from the 2.8series.[SUP][15][/SUP] The CAAD4 model introduced S-bend aluminum seat stays for improved comfort.

This HAD to be an old thread. At least one would hope most riders would have known what CAAD stood for by now.....or like me, didnt care. And I loooove my Cannondale Criterium Series, a CAAD predecessor.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.
It's Cannondale Addicts Anonymous De-tox. The number refers to steps in the recovery program.
