New Shoes... did I make a mistake?

Yesterday I was at the LBS and saw a pair of $200 shoes I've been interested in on sale for $60. Couldn't turn down that price. So, I bought them. When I get home, I begin to have doubts about the wisdom of my decision. The shoes are white, and everyone knows you gotta be fast to wear white shoes. Me thinks I'm not fast enough. I can just see the looks and hear the comments that will be headed my way this summer. Yep, another over-the-hill wannabe trying to look the part. But the shoes feel so good. I rode them for over an hour on the trainer and they feel great. What to do? What to do?

I don't think you have to be fast to wear white shoes, I think white shoes make you fast.

Actually, I have never heard anyone say that white shoes are for fast riders... am I living a sheltered life?

I've never heard that white shoes were reserved for fast riders either. Being female I only know you can't wear them after Labor Day

Can't wear them after Labor Day. Reminds me of a black comedy with Kathleen Turner called Serial Mom. Highly amusing!

How about keeping it in a low gear so your shoes are a blur?
No huh?
If there a good fit, I wouldn't worry about it. If it really bothers you, look into have them dyed another color, like tan or gray.

Hey white is in!! White bar tape. White saddles. Black and white bikes. No worry!!

Were those Diadora's by chance??

Been shoe shopping here as well. I think I've looked at every shoe model for the past couple years. Hey you did better than me, I just got a new pair of Sidi's with a carbon sole that are terrific-$300 shoes in fact. However, my feet are so weird I'm just not sure how they're going to work out on 100 mile rides. They're probably wonderful shoes for anyone's else's feet. If anyone wants a great deal on a pair of 46's just pm me.....I don't think I need them for just the shorter rides. The little rubber heel is very nice though!!

I've also just ordered a closeout pair of Diadora's in a model I know will not make my feet suffer....but these are not white!!

In 1989, I bought three pair of Avia cleated cycling shoes from a bargain bin super cheap. 1 black, 1 white & black (frickin' penguin colors), and 1 white with red trim. I moved on to other shoes over the years but, always having one clips&straps bike, I wore the Avias down until.........last summer I moved to the final white pair.

And, damn, I felt fast in those little suckers. Lookin' down at those angel boots spinning away, I felt too cool. Like NOS88 above, I felt almost unworthy of such an Ivan Basso color scheme. Anyway, a riding friend later told me he thought I looked like I was riding in Keds.

Now I don't feel so pretentious, but I still feel faster than I am. Red polyester slacks and a white belt may come later.

I had a white bike that looked just like that one. Mine was a '91 R600 or maybe R400. It had RX100 components. The bike was fun and accelerayed like a rocket. But it had the tight Criterium geometry and was too twitchy on long rides and it beat me half to death on anything less than glass smooth pavement.

I sold it after one year and bought the '92 Bridgestone RB-1 that is still my main ride.

New White Shoes - Definite Mistake - Wrong Size

OO, (or other 50+er w/ smaller feet)

I've got some mostly white Time Iron CX shoes with adapters to fit Look cleats (no cleats), never used, they don't fit me. If you can wear size 42 (US mens 8 1/2) I'll let you have them for the cost of shipping + say $10 to cover gas & time to go to USPS or whatever. Judging by the length of your headtube, I'm betting they won't fit you either.

I've had these a few months and I was going to sell them on eBay, but I've never gotten around to it. Let me know if you are interested.

Admins: feel free to pull this if it violates board rules. I realize after I put it up it may be questionable.
