Bikes: Many

I dangerously ride around without even caring if my computer is more accurate than the 2 or 3 % that you can get with any chart.

Imagine thinking I am going 13 miles per hour and actually going 13.5!!!!

Look out, I am a rebel without a clue!

Louis,
I concur the roll out method is the most accurate -- but remember, you know you are in the right forum if you don't take things too seriously around here!

Has anyone suggested taking the bike and 'puter to the LBS and having them set it? That's what I did, there was no charge. Piece of cake!

Bikes: Diamondback Clarity II frame homebuilt.

Do you take flat tires to the LBS?

We are going to have to encourage you to become more mechanical.

Domo Arigato Mr. Robato.

I have, actually. And my own father failed after years of effort to make me mechanical (he built his own home, for one thing), so good luck!

They probably added 20% to the circumference just to make you feel good when you ride...

I have noticed improvement. You did post that you raised your own handlebars a couple of times.

Ah, but that's easy. You just rest the front wheel on a block of wood.

Is there a temperature compensation feature. You know how much the road expands when sitting in the hot sun!

Just had to add another angel to the pinheads

D'oh! I went to https://www.cateye.com and found the English-only version of the instruction manual for my Cateye Enduro 8. Lo and behold, it even includes a tire size chart!!!!!!!!!!! According to the chart, the approximate tire size is 220cm.

There are 2 pages of instructions that provide more detail than the package insert. I'm glad I finally had the sense to look this up. Live and learn....

Thanks again everyone.

I'd try 222 (2217 mm) in lieu of doing a roll out.

I wrapped a string around the center of the tire and measured 86.6 inches, the same I got from doing the roll-out. I multiplied that by 2.54 to get cm, and entered 219 on the computer. It's done. I like to measure things to as close as I can get.... most of you probably don't care that much, but it's just fun for me to know those things.

Whats the Equivalent for OCP in just setting the bike up?

Yen. You will find that you do not have to be that particular. Although you have measured the tyre and got the correct size- The tyre will wear- At times you will have different pressures and air and ground temperature can affect it. Good to be carefull in setting up, but I generrally go by the Table supplied. Then when the battery goes flat- and I don't replace it- Or the sensor gets out of kilter and it doesn't work for 3 rides because I have stopped looking at it- It doesn't affect me any more.

A computer is the best toy for a bike you can get. Just try sorting out the new toy when it goes wrong and you will realise why I gave up on them years ago- Or rather they gave up on me.

Of course we care that much. Ya gotta do it right. Oh, by the way, have you named your bike yet?

Just curious-
In your original post, was 820 a typo?

Jen, which computer did you get for your bike? Is it wired or wireless?

What is 'OCP' anyway? A forum search of the term turned up nothing. I'm assuming it is Obsessive Compulsive Person??? I have always liked to keep track of things and chart my progress. I'm curious about "how far", "how much", and, especially (to the extreme annoyance of my parents when I was young), "WHY??". A computer will satisfy my curious mind. It is not obsessive.... I'm just curious about the details. I may tire of it later... who knows..... but meanwhile I will enjoy tracking my progress.

So far, I'm enjoying just calling it "My bike". Hey, I think I'll name it M'ike!

Hmmm.... yes.... a big typo! The default setting was 210.

Rosie, I got the Cateye Enduro 8, a wireless computer. I haven't even had a chance to test it yet!
