Oldsters I admire

I've lately become impressed with William Shattner. Not because I'm all that thrilled with what he's doing. When I first saw those priceline.com commercials I thought, look at that old fool. But the commercials have grown on me, and it's good to see an "elder person" try new material, not rest on his laurels. My boy {25yrs } really likes him. It gives me hope that maybe, if I keep trying to grow, I won't become one of those bitter, irrelevant old farts complaining from the side lines.

Shatner cracks me up.

With each encarnation of his career, going back to the Twilight Zone and Kraft Theater stuff, he just keeps after it. I can't imagine what this guy's like in real life, but his work always seems fresh...at least to me.

Boston Legal is one of the few shows I watch anymore. Those folks really get me laughing. It makes you realize Shatner is a pretty darn good actor.......or maybe he is just being himself!!

How many times on the old Star Trek did they put Shatner in front of a white wall with some colored lights shining on it and tell him to convience the audience that everyone was about to die?

And speaking of admiration, let's not forget Shatner was old enough to be on this forum when he did 85 episoids of T. J. Hooker opposite Heather Locklear!

TCS

"Shatner had a long dry spell in the decade between the original Star Trek series and the first Trek film, which he believes was due to his being typecast as Captain Kirk, making it difficult to find other work. Moreover, his wife Gloria Rand left him. With very little money and acting prospects, he lived in a truck bed camper in the San Fernando Valley until acting bit-parts turned into higher paying roles." Wikipedia

The top of my list for "Oldsters" I admire is Ned Overend. I keep expecting him to win another Ironman! And the guy is still a great cyclist (mtn.biking). Truly one of the greatest!!

How can you not love Jack LaLanne, who's 912 years old -- well, actually, he's well inot his nineties -- and continues to work out and get after it. Go, Jack, go!

I admire my father who at 84, is still driving, still romancing my mother (82), still ballroom dancing two or three times a week, playing the drums in a band, singing in the church choir, and so on. They will celebrate their 64th anniversary on July 5th.

Uh, ease up there, HFB!

A couple of summers ago, we were having dinner at a table next to Jack LaLanne and his wife and daughter. I went to the men's room, and when I came back, he had his arm around my wife and was hitting on her.

Well OK, Chuck Norris doesn't fear Death because Death gives him professional courtesy.
