I've read posts going both ways, and I don't think bikes can be both.
So, do you name your bike a feminine name or a masculine name--and why**********?

I don't name my bike's, but if I did, my blue mtn.bike would be masculine (it's blue-so a guy color)
The Reno (silver & black)-also masculine-silver & black just look masculine.
Donna's Reno (wsd) is silver with a white stripe with a light pale blue Lemond in it--I'd say feminine.
Her Kona mtn.bike is purple--a dark purple, so it could be either I guess, but since it's hers, feminine.

My navy-blue Schwinn is "BlueBoy." My dark-grey/carbon-weave Scott is, so far "Scott," though I'm considering "GreyGhost," or "DarkStallion."

So if I name a road bike Ginger and a MTB Sam, do you think they could produce little bikes for me? Could be a cheap way to get a new bike - but I really don't need a cross bike...

I have a Gary Fisher Sugar mountain bike.
My daughter also has a Gary Fisher mountian bike.
My daughter calls her bike Gary....I call my bike Sugar.
Maybe it has to do with the gender of the owner that determins the gender of the bike.

One of my bikes has a female name, some of my bikes have male names and some of my bikes have names that don't have a gender. I don't know why. That's just their names. Who am I to argue?

I have generic names:
1. The mountain bike
2. The basket bike
3. The fender bike
4. The italian beauty (my mistress)
I'll let you guess which gets ridden the most.

Being a logic-driven person, to me the answer seems straight-forward. Bikes that are designed for male riders are masculine and bikes that are women-specific designs are feminine. Heck, bike shops refer to them as men's bikes and women's bikes.
Those bikes, such as many hybrids, that are designed to be used by both men and women, are gender-neutral, or anything else you want to call a bike that can go both ways.

But these men's bikes with their tall top tubes & more rigid frames do not resemble females.

It has nothing to do with color or whether it is designed for men or women. Logic won't explain it. Mr. Spock.
