Washing the 50 + jersey
I wore my new 50+ jersey and was going to wash it. This is the only jersey I own so pardon my ignorance, but there are two different(sort of) washing instructions. On the collar it says hand or machine wash. Towards the bottom of the jersey there's a tag that says hand wash. So which is it? Is it okay to machine wash? What do the rest of you do?

Gentle machine wash, hang dry.
My wife insists on powdered detergent. She says the stuff that makes the liquids be liquid clogs up teh magic micro fibers and stops them from doing their magic fiber wicking thing as well.
I think a lot of wear on clothes comes from teh heated dryer, so we always hang dry. It takes very little time.

Yeah, hang dry for sure.
On another note, beware of putting anything with Velcro in the machine with bike clothes, it'll play hell on those delicate fabrics.

+1 on the drip dry, fabric lasts longer without heating it to death.
Also, ever since my SO complained about the terrible odor of my jerseys (even after been washed), we have been using this on our cycling gear, Win sports detergent:

Don't mince words
Machine wash, gentle, cold, using Woolite. Hang to dry. No softeners. Seems to work just fine for all delicate items.

I use the Woolite for black clothes to wash the black shorts, tights and regular Woolite for everything else. I have some biking clothes that are several years old and still look great.

I've been washing my jerseys in the machine, normal cycle, cold water, and turned inside out for years. I use a powder detergent. I read somewhere that liquid detergents tend to cling to the fibers and not completely rinse out. Don't know if it's true, but at the time the explanation (for which I can not remember the details) made sense. I hang them to dry.

Jerseys don't really get all that dirty, unless you get chain grease all over it. The thing is sweat and body oils. So the best thing you can do is immediately after a ride, rinse it off. It won't take a lot of detergent and it can be cold water. I do this while the jersey is still wet with sweat.
I bought a 2 gallon bucket from Home Depot and use the garden hose to fill it maybe 60% with some detergent. I let it soak while I wipe down the bike after a ride. I also use the detergent water to soak my wipe down rag to clean off the road grime off the bike.
The garden hose is what I use to rinse off the jersey as I lay it flat on the nearby bush. Then hang dry outside.

If you machine wash, then turn it inside out to wash. That way the outside doesn't get beat up by the tines. Makes a big difference over a number of washings.

I have a small mesh laundry bag that I use to hold anything with Velcro. They just stick to each other inside the bag
