Need link to a good-looking bike wall mount
Here's the deal. I've lost the free half of my garage to a mini-van, and I decided to redo my basement studio which has some long walls in it (30 feet). Bike storage is now an issue, so I want to mount some bikes as if they were art... I'm going to paint a large square behind them in a hue that shows off the bike and put picture molding or trim up as a fake frame. Top it off with a little art light shining down from above.
What I need is a simple wooden or metal (preferably wood) clamp or bent thing that will hold the bike up off the floor horizontally, and won't look like it's industrial or belongs in a garage... I don't want one that holds the bike up by the wheel, or has a steel pole that runs up from the floor. Just a little hanger....
(If anyone's good at woodworking, I'll bet they could make me a few...not for free, of course...)
anyone have any links for me? I'm just not finding anything.

I don't have a link, but my local hardware store sells a bike rack that consists of a plate that bolts to the wall and 2 vinyl coated hooks that stick out that cradle the top tube of the bike. It folds up when the bike is not there, costs about $5 and the only problem is that the top tube will be level which may make the bike hang with the front wheel lower that the rear.

Oooh! Great! I'll check it out. Mine are all vintage bikes, so the top tube is pretty straight anyway. Thanks!

You may have to space it out from the wall depending on the width of your handlebars.

Available at Lowes $4.96.
This may not be "good looking" enough, but you could dress it up a bit.

That Lowe's one is good, having a mounting hole area that you can locate on a wall stud. You may want to still mount it on a finished wood block for looks and to keep the metal part from digging into the wall. Be sure to use screws that are long enough.

As much as I like metal, this one made of the original composite material looks better.

I like the looks of the wood one. Either would do fine. Thanks!
Isn't Tom Brady the guy that got shot when Reagan got shot?

LOL! Two things.. not a football fan, and not good at remembering names...
Football moves at the wrong pace for me. 2 seconds of action with 10 minutes of replays. I like baseball, where you get time to mull over the different strategies and strengths of the players.
At least I'm now reassured about Tom... I had visions of James Brady in a wheelchair with a bicycle mount in his chest.

I just use two metal screw hooks and screw them into the ceiling joists. They are covered with rubber so they don't mar the finish. I space them so that I can flip the bike upside down and hang it from the wheels. This keeps the bike up and away so that I can use the space below for stuff. It is much easier to get my carbon bike hooked up than it is for my heavy steel touring Burley. Works for me
