All I wanted to do when I posted this thread was to get a feel for what people were feeling on the subject. I stated my opinion, and am now aware others are feeling differently. That's fine. I just wanted to have a discussion on the subject.
That's why I ended the OP with the question, "What do you think?"

It's not how I feel when I get on the bike, it's how I feel when I get off the bike. 
I live in L.A., and do most of my riding in heavy traffic and bike paths that run along several schools. Near misses are a daily occurance. As much as love to ride, I'm also made aware of my fragility at almost every turn.
Additionally, my comments were in repsonse to the question posed to me:
