Bikw Shorts
I'd like to try a pair of bicycle shorts to see if I want to get a few pair. Performance has quite a few on sale (their own) for 29 and under. Would these be worthwhile for a trial pair, or need I spend a lot of money for a test. If OK, is one model head and shoulders above the rest?

I have a couple pair of their "Century" shorts and they work great for me. As a matter of fact, on my ride this AM I was thinking about how I was so comfortable on my Brooks B17 - but some of that comfort might have been due to the shorts.

If you are not using Cycle shorts at present- Then almost any form of cycle shorts will be an improvement. You get what you pay for so don't go delving into the bargain box for rejects- and don'rt wear any under wear beneath the shorts. Only thing is- Save yourself a few years learning and jump straight in and Get Bib Shorts. For most of us- they are better.

I've tried them, but I can't handle their chamois. I've had to go to the near top of the line Pearl Izumi to get a comfortable chamois. I last bought them about three years ago and bought several as I found a good sale. Have no idea if they would work for me now as they change designs about every year.
You'll have to experiment.

Now, I will state something here that most people won't agree with-- get the smallest shorts you can fit into-- they will make the riding much better-- not so much for short rides, but once you get over 60 miles or so, the added support really helps--that and the 'squeeze effect' the lycra has on your thighs-- I'm not sure how that sounded, but they are more comfortable
As Stapfam stated, if you've never worn them, they will be a big improvement-- and while I agree on the bib shorts, I bought mine because the price was right-- the bibs were $40 at the time.
