Garage Work-Light Questions
I am interested in a work light for the garage now that I have been doing more repairs myself.
I looked at some Craftsman, but some of the pedestals got terrible reviews for plastic parts and pins that broke easily.
Thinking about going to Lowe's or Home Depot for a Halogen light. They have several for under $20. I don't need anything super fancy, and was prepared to spend a hundred bucks, but looking around have found plenty of lighting for under $50.
Wondering whether I need 250, 500, or 1000 watts. Kidding, I think 1000 would be overkill, but I live in Florida, and the garage has no A/C, just cooled with 2 fans. I don't want a dang sun-lamp over my shoulder.
Is Halogen too hot, and should I be looking at flourescent?
Is 250 watts plenty of juice for basic bicycle work?
I want to mount on the ceiling, which is finished with basic drywall/plaster. Should I just get a single light with a pedestal, or use a floor model tilted up?
So, recommendations on lights?
What do you use?
Thanks.

For me,,,if you can get the light in the right place where it shines where you need it, the flourescent shold be enough... I am typing this under a florescent and can see plenty good. just my two cents... you can even put up more lights in the places you need for less money?

16x10 bike shed and I have two 4ft fluorescent tubes . One over the work bench and one over the area I work on the bikes. Quite sufficient to work with but 1/3rd the area of the shed is just for storing bikes and I don't bother lighting that bit.

I've had the same issue. Yes, Halogen is too hot even in N Florida. I would up stringing lots of double 4' florescents on the ceiling.
I now have a second house in N Georgia (because we haven't been able to sell our Florida house yet) and I have the problem again. I'm going to use the same solution.
I keep a LED flashlight in my bike tool box for those instances where I'm doing something where I temporarily need even more light. I hold it in my teeth.
I'm still looking for a florescent light on an adjustable pole stand. I'm probably going to mount a double florescent work light on a home made stand eventaully for those few instances where I need super bright.
I also work on my cars, so I need the lights for that too.

You'd just cook yourself with the halogen light(s). I used to use then in part for heat in my old garage during winter over here across the state from you. Kept the chill away real nice, couldn't bear to use them during the summer.
