Saw a turkey today...
Today, on the katy trail, I actually rode right up beside a turkey and said "well hello there" before it strutted off into the woods. Pretty strange, but it was next to a fairly well-used park outside Sedalia. Deer, Turkey...all in the same week.
God bless!

You must be in a game-deficient area. Just in my backyard I see deer, rabbits, turkeys, about a dozen kinds of songbirds, bull- and leopard frogs, bats, painted and snapping turtles, hawks, and at night I listen to coyotes, and the tree frogs will climb right up on my windows looking for bugs. Sometimes I can almost read by the light of the fireflies.

Turkeys are very common here in our area of CA, too. Today, a white egret (also common) got spooked as I rode by, but flew along side me (well, about 25 feet up and 50 feet away) for a while. He landed up ahead, then took off again when I caught up to him. Fun. We also have lots of dead stuff.

The Turkeys seem to hang around longer than most game. Those and doves. A quiet approach gets one within hit-with-a-stick range! Pretty weird. Same with those on shore when I'm kayaking. Can almost reach out and touch the suckers!

You had better luck than I did. I'm pretty sure I was seen as a turkey when I was crawling back up that spot mentioned in another thread.

Just back from a ride. While we taking a little break after coming off a bike trail that follows a creek and some open space, a Tom & Hen and 8 teenage turkeys wandered out of the brush, not 20 feet from us. The mosied over to some lawn in front of an apartment building, completely unconcerned with our presence. They started across the road, but I think our little group scared them back as we started riding.
