Is anyone participating in this program?

The Medicare insurance I'm considering pays for this program and my local Y participates in the program. My question is about the classes. Are they special classes or are you able to take any of the classes offered at the facility? Their website doesn't make this real clear and it almost sounds as if it's just certain classes they offer.

I have a Bally's gym membership and wouldn't want to drop it if I'm limited to special classes at the Y through the Silver Sneakers program. I want to be able to attend at any time they're open, workout on the machines and take any of the classes they offer.

I ride with Chuck 69 y/o.
He goes three times a week for upper body workouts.
I think you can go anytime after they get you set up in their computer system

Around here, a Silver Sneaker membership allows full access to all of our recreation facilities, including two different rec centers.

There are special Silver Sneaker classes, but you don't have to go. I went to a couple, and will never go back, as here they seem based on the assumption that we are all almost in a nursing home, and the classes and the way they treat one are what one might expect in a nursing home. I.e., "sweetie" "dearie" - "be sure to cross your midline" - "these exercises are good for your ADL's (activities of Daily Living" - "please don't take more than a 6 pound weight," etc., etc. They even had a monitor in the back to see if you were doing anything wrong - she and I really tangled one day! YMMV.

Not my style, but some folks enjoy them.

But, heck, it is free. Except my medicare supplement plan doesn't cover the cost, and my wife and I pay $400 per year for the membership.

I remember you experience with the classes

I think I'll hold onto my Bally's membership until I can check it out at the local Y. If Silver Sneakers will get me into any class at the Y I'll be satisfied with it. They offer spinning classes at the Y and they don't have them at the local Bally's Bally's spinning classes are 25 miles from my home.

Our Y is a new facility and very nice but their annual membership is twice what I pay at Bally's even with my coporate discount. The senior discount isn't much better.

So if I'm reading it right, it is a program offered through Medicare supplement insurance plans. Although it never actually comes out and says so, I assume you need to be eligible for Medicare to participate. Sorry if I'm violating some vow of secrecy, but then if was supposed to be privileged information, it should have been posted in the ubergeeezer, uh, I mean 65+ thread.
