I need a ruling.

Yesterday afternoon I was invited to ride with four of our better club riders. I was keeping up pretty well and we were practicing a simple pass and fall off pace line. Being a practice we were only doing maybe 17 MPH as we got used to each other. At about the 10-mile mark I found myself out front and no one said break. Turns out one of the riders on a classic road bike had a flat. As I slowed down to stop I was looking kinds over my shoulder and unclipped my right foot. I put my foot down but missed the cement curb and placed my foot it some wet mud. As I corrected I ended up pushing up and losing my balance on my left, unclipped side. Over I went right in front of the rest of the group. More injury to my pride than anything else but I did suffer some blood and a stained cycling sock. Does this count as part of the club?

Road riding has it's hazards, especially in groups...don't see much in it myself. Don't know what initiation rites these sort of clubs have, either. Now about those white socks....

I know and I have a drawer full of short black socks. But the Jersey I had on was black, red and white. Plus I just got the socks from Dura-ace guy at the bike shop earlier in the day. The blood wouldn't have shown up as well on black.

You said four of your better club riders. Did any of them happen to be really good looking girls?

If it was all guy riders it doesn't count because guys will typically find reasons to poke fun at one another anyway. If nothing else some guys will even make fun of your sock color.

I think it qualifies for Club Tombay. It has several of the requirements:
Blood
Inattention
Witnesses
Embarrassment
Blood

Nah, soak em in (non-chlorine) bleach for colored fabrics or hydrogen peroxide, and they're good as new

And just wait till you see my new N+1 desire. I am test riding a Masi caffe Solo for a few days to see if it will make a good backup bike. It is a 08 I believe but don't let DG know what color it comes in. I may post a picture tomorrow. I got in about 20 minutes tonight and hope to get in a good ride Tuesday. Depending on the club ride Monday I might even get in a few miles on Monday afternoon. At least I didn't fall over on that.

Is this your first Tombay qualifier? If so, congratulations, this is a classic. For all of the others in 50+..........pay attention, this is how a pro does it....

Why bother? Doesn't a blood stain make them better than new?

Falling is cycling. BTW, I like the white socks. Are we not the reason for the "throw back trend"?

What's the matter with white socks??? Is this just one more thing I'm doing wrong??? Could this be the reason I can't climb worth a darn??

Don't blame it on the pedals.

I think its more of a Curt Shilling kind of accident.

Yeah, I used to be a "short-white-socks" guy too, but my LBS recommended DeFeet "Woolie-Boolies" for cold weather, so because of these Woolie Boolies I now ride in black socks (not because of some guy from TX who rode in black socks just to annoy Johan).

I thought I'd found some white "Woolie-Boolies" on the DeFeet web site, but when they got to me it turned out they were pink. Regardless of what Cleave says, I gave them to my wife.

Despite constant reminders about bleach, my wife has truned all my white wool socks yellow.

I wear woolie-boolies too, but I figure they don't count because anytime I have them on (< 40 degrees) I have booties on over them

anyway, congrats to the OP on his red sock of courage! (TM)
