103 miles in gorgeous weather, low wind, low humidity. Couldn't be better. Three climbs: 1) Sperryville on 211 up over Shenandoah NP, 2) S. Fort Valley Rd. up over Massanutten Mt from Luray, and 3) Edinburg Gap. About 6500 feet of climbing or so.

Perfect weather here, too. We did about 75 miles with 8000 feet, including a 4 mile 15% grind. Felt pretty good on the bike.

Not sure how many feet of climbing but nowhere near as the two above but did 101 miles. I traveled a few new roads and some old ones as well.
I left at 6:30am and there was very few cars out. The weather was great.

Even though no pictures my legs are saying it indeed did happen. My camera is crap, I need a new one.

Back around the personal mountain biking hippodrome (that is what my wife calls it who used to edit books for Rodale press). The field is well compacted from having lots of sheep in it for a while, and there are huge divets where trees had pulled out of the ground in the past when they got too big. It is a lot of fun to roll into a hole which is 3 meters across and use it to shoot you to the next hole. Keep it up as long as your legs survive.

One very nice thing is there are not rocks to speak of except around the river - which is at the bottom of the property. I figure when I can work down to there, I can jump in the river to cool off before grinding my way back to the top of the hill - half a kilometer or so of distance, 100 meter rise.

35 miles yesterday and 51 miles this bright sunny morning, very humid and hot.

46 miles today. Still playing with the camera mount. Tried making a video today and it worked out pretty good. Not much to see except the road in front of me but I know I can do it now. I need to work on the vibration even though it is not to bad.

36 miles today fighting 38 mile wind gusts for about thirty miles of it and temperatures close to ninety . Felt like I did sixty five miles , had to take a nap when I got home, hills and wind are not friendly to me.

Beautiful day yesterday. I did 10 miles with an Ave HR of 100. My VO2 Max was 62 and I pumped out 144.76 Watts. Nothing earth shattering, I know. I also finished the President's Physical Fitness Challange and got the Gold award. I want to get a membership at the Y so I can swim again. I'll try my hand at running. I put clip on aerobars on the bike because I am leaning towards a triathlon. Or at least use the exercises for it for physical fitness.

52 miles today on a flat, hot & sunny club ride on rural roads. The single short steep hill was, thankfully, near the start.

kr32 07-05-10 02:31 PM

30 recovery miles after yesterdays 101. I think I shifted three times and that was just to see what the next lower gear felt like. I was pretty cool just riding without worrying about what gear to be in.
I may look into s/s bikes for this.

Here in Arizona one must leave early in the morning to get some miles in. Today I left just before 4 AM. Here is my ride for today. Sometimes a person gotta do what a person gotta do. I sure envy you folks along the coast these days.

20 miles, mostly on the largest rail-trail in the area. Just getting in at least a few miles each day as we are within a week of our first multi-day mini-tour, starting on the 12th.! :)

I got up early and rode into town to join some of the bike club members in giving a bike safety talk to a bunch of middle school age kids at the local police dept.'s summer camp. We found it ironic that they were unaware that anyone under 16 is required by Georgia law to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. We presented a lot of good info and then led them on a ride on the MUP at the river greenway. 28 mile round trip. Then I went with my family to my parents' house for ribs. Yummy.

I rode into town on a road I usually avoid due to heavy traffic and inattentive drivers. It was almost car free on this holiday morning.

Pictures of the ribs or it didn't happen.

I sympathize with your heat problems. (I assume you're talking about the heat.) But you really don't want to be on the right coast at this time. In the northeast we hit about 97 with a dew point probably around 70. At 1130PM it is still about 80. I went out with a friend this morning, rode 33 miles. Started at 9AM. Couldn't get out any earlier but we were sure glad we didn't wait any later.

Despite the hot weather, I managed to ride 47.3 miles before noon. It was very hot, have to hydrate often every 5 miles I think. Two bottles I take with me one for water and the other for Gatorade mix with juice were almost empty when I pulled up the driveway.

I get the impression that you consider that a lot of hydration. I would have most likely emptied both bottles twice on a ride of that distance on a hot day.

You need to drink more often.

12.2 miles this morning @ 18.8 ave.

On the subject of water, I take my 100 oz Camelbak mule on all rides over 20 miles. In the summer I freeze some water in it. It is nice to have cool water to drink at the end of a 50 mile club ride.

Clarification, I do drink more often and refill my water bottle at water fountains along the MUPs. Last Sunday, I actully ran out of Gatorade but bought a bottle at a vending machine by the clubhouse I happened to pass at on my route.

kr32 07-06-10 04:50 PM

Nope,I called the weather and it was 100° so I canned it and watched the Tour.
Maybe tomorrow

Nice road ride Tuesday afternoon with a couple of guys from work. A little slower pace than normal. Got home after 26 miles and realized I had not taken house keys and my wife had gone to pick up our son and go out to eat. After sitting around for a while I got back on the bike and eased around the neighborhood for another 5 miles waiting for her to return and let me in.

PaulH 07-07-10 05:27 AM

I ride my 17 miles to work and back every day. It's shortened from my usual 20 because I have to get my daughter to day camp. The alarmist stuff about the heat emergency is even more overstated than usual. I can recall lots of times when heat stress was greater.

Yeah, but the other kinds of stress sure seem to be greater these days.
