I had to work this morning but got in a 21 mile ride in the afternoon. Very pleasant day, not too warm or windy.

I saw 7 other cyclists during my ride which is a record.

Seven is a record? Cycling not too popular in Kansas?

everybody rode away from me :(

46.7 miles this morning. A little foggy at the start with temps in the upper 60's. Fog cleared up around 9:00AM, the sun was out and it turned out to be a very pleasant ride.

I got in a little 19 mile 1800' recovery ride up on the BRP this morning with the kid's gym coach. It was a pretty morning for a ride.

Alas, no. The @!&%! school bus failed to arrive today, so I had to drive my daughter to school and continue on to work. Bummer of a way to start the first day after a great long weekend. Tomorrow, I have to do a flight, which means I have to drive to work again. Thursday and Friday will be bike days!

After gaining 4 to 5 pounds over the weekend and doing chores this morning was able to get out about 1 pm. 15 to 20 head wind, felt tired. Went on the Rio Hondo/Los Angeles river bed to see if it was finished. All the pavement is done but no paint! Went to Bayshore dr. in Belmont Shore. Went 18 mph + for 3.6 miles before Bayshore Dr.
This surprised me as i had felt tired earlier. Stopped and rested, easy pedal until 15 miles from home. With the wind at my back was able to do 20+ mph all the way home, 45 minutes. Total trip 40 miles. Doing the trip up to and over Santa Fe Dam and fighting the wind on the return trips has really helped.

I rode - and got thoroughly soaked! :notamused: Fortunately it was just a shower and not a thunderstorm. The Trek got a free wash, and I finally had a compelling reason to clean and lube the chain. Hope my shoes don't shrink. They're stuffed with newspaper for now. That trick worked well the last time I got soaked.

It's weird enough that they pave the rivers in La-La Land, but paint? Like, arrows and lane lines to direct the water? Wow!

I rode last night. Still had a good case of 'dead legs' from Saturday's ride. At least no soreness. Started out with the main group, which was only averaging about 17 mph; but coming up on the turnaround, my happy feet took over. On the return leg, I was able to do 22-23 mph on the flats; but was working much harder than normal to maintain speed on hills. I pushed much harder than I should have on the last hill. I was beyond the normal muscle-crying-type pain and there was a tiny sproing! deep in my right quad. At that point I was near the top anyway, so I downshifted 2 gears and spun the rest of the way up. Both legs are sore and dead today, but no worse than I expected.

No ride tonight; lots of rain moving in and BP hates riding in the rain!

My daughter's gymnastics coach mentioned on FB that she wanted to ride again today. :thumb: Since she started riding just over 3 weeks ago, we have been alternating riding on the relative flats in the valley and the extended climbs on the mountain. Distance has steadily improved to 30 miles down low to 20 miles up high on the hills. I think that's amazing. Her bike handling is getting better and she has had no issues with the clipless pedals after the first day.

So today I thought I would switch it up. She teaches gymnastics so she understands sports but perhaps not an aerobic sport like cycling. We met on campus where she lives and my plan was to show her a ride she could do from her door. It was her first intro to intervals. The loop is 1.6 miles on campus with a decent climb (9%) and then descent. We warmed up and rode the loop once to talk about how to ride the hill. Start at the crosswalk and ride hard to the yield sign at the top. It might have been 45-60 secs of effort for her. She made 3 loops and flagged on the fourth. Time to cooldown and head home. So now she has an hour workout to ride right from her door. She was already talking about next time doing 4 reps for sure. LOL

On Sat. she will join my wife, NealH and me on a 30 mile organized charity ride. My wife will be on her new bike coming off the couch, not having ridden in awhile. It's her birthday and that's what she wants to do. :)

It does look that way doesn't it! She's used to me going off for rides with the women folk. I've been trying to get her to tag along so if riding with a 19yo is what it takes then I say it's a good thing. I'm working on getting her bike built by Friday. It's gonna be close.

kr32 06-02-10 07:31 PM

It was 90° when I started after work today. I was going to just take it easy and do 25 miles maybe. I turned left instead of right about a third of the way and ended up with 40 miles.
I need to install my second bottle holder because one just isn't cutting anymore in this heat.

Allegheny Jet 06-02-10 07:40 PM

53 Zone 2 miles tonight. It was a hot 3 bottle ride.

Wogster 06-02-10 08:19 PM

~10km shakedown ride for the now completed Raleigh road bike. I could have gone further, but needed to make some adjustments, need to raise the bars slightly (there is about 2-3cm room there), and readjust the saddle.... I do need to get a bar bag for it, that I can stuff the tool kit into. Might get 2, if I can get them for a reasonable price and retire the little rear saddle bag from the wifes bike. Decided I don't need a computer for it.

The bike paths are on the top of the banks/levee's. Yes, they are striped in the center with white lines on each side and arrows/bike lane painted to show the way. In the actual river bed is where the Fire Department, Bus drivers, CHP, and motorbike cops practice.

58 miles today, up and over the Santa Fe Dam to HWY 39 then home. High clouds, sunny and breezy, 80 degrees.

MinnMan 06-02-10 09:12 PM

25 mostly flat miles in the northern Twin Cities suburbs with the local club this evening. It was supposed to be an A/B ride, but there were plenty of A riders. I'm not really one of them, but I hung with the fast group and finished the route with an average speed of 19.2 MPH. Some of you do that all the time, but for me, that's smokin.

DnvrFox 06-02-10 09:30 PM

25 fun miles to Confluence Park and then to Carson Nature Center, where the wife picked me up. I am averaging about 25 miles per day.

JimF22003 06-03-10 08:33 AM

Got up early to get a ride in before the heat and the thunderstorms. Beatiful day, until I broke a derailleur cable :(

Luckily I had no hills to speak of on the way back, so just kept it on the small chain ring/small cog.

az_cyclist 06-03-10 01:38 PM

Yes I did. I now have enough light in the morning for a ride before work (replaces a 5 k run). 12.4 miles

Imagonnabike 06-03-10 06:17 PM

Only almost 3... but I rode!

BluesDawg 06-03-10 07:35 PM

Today's rain came and went before my ride for a change. 12 mile very humid MTB ride. Last chance to ride before BRAG.

Retired 06-03-10 08:29 PM

I didn't ride today but did yesterday. I started late so by the time I started it was already 90 degrees and the humidity was was 78%. V02 Max was 62 and watts were 175.12. I had two bottles of liquid. I raised my saddle height and I think it was too much so at the end of an hour I had no energy at all. The sky was starting to darken and I started to see lightening. I did make it back before the storm.
