I did 10 miles today in an hour. It's not the miles that are important to me as much as heart function. I came off with some solid stats. It was 93 degrees with 48% humidity and a 5-6 mph SE wind. I had a bottle of gator aid and a bottle of water. I did about 10 minutes in zone 2 and 50 minutes in zone 3 reaching a high of 84% of my max HR. I've never done that before. I tried what I guess you call a sprint where I go all out. I did that twice and attained a speed of 23.5 mph. I was really happy with the rest. VO2 Max 63, Watts 199.46, Watts/kg 3.07, Ave HR 123. I woun't see my cardiologist until Aug, but I have really solid stats to show him and go over my ICD readouts. I have heart failure but these numbers are solid. I'm really happy with these. That is the most Watts I have ever seen.

Left the house at 6:45 this morning, a rarity for me on weekends, but sure to happen more often now that summer weather is arriving. A friend from work who lives a few miles from me wanted to ride but needed to get done early to spend the day with his daughters. Another reason to ride early was the good chance of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon. To my surprise, my 14 y/o son wanted to join us. He has been too busy at school to ride much at all for several months. Now that school is out, he has been enjoying sleeping late, but today he wanted to ride more than he wanted to sleep.
We rode a moderately hilly 32 mile route with great pavement and very little traffic, especially at that hour on a Saturday. It was overcast, windless and temps in the low 70's. Just about as good as it gets but for fairly high humidity. I took Ribby (Bridgestone RB-1) today. I have been mostly riding the Salsa Casseroll lately in preparation for BRAG coming up a week from now. It felt good to be on a lighter and livelier bike that seemed to want to go faster on the climbs. It was also was nice to have my son riding with me. I have to confess to enjoying his lagging behind on the faster sections and the hills. When he was riding regularly, he took great joy in waiting at the top of hills and making smart alec comments about his old man not being able to keep up. I was easy on him as I know this won't last if he gets to ride more often. |
Also took out early this morning for a heart starting ride...just wanted to get the early morning routine started now that the sun is making light earlier in the day...
enjoy the ride. |

I did but it was raining. Only saw one other bike and he was not amused by the weather either.

Club ride at the crack of 9:00 AM. How do they get up so early? I'm usually at prison by 4:30 or 5:30 AM. I have to wait for these guys who think 9: is early. We went on county blacktop roads for 25+ miles. Finally hit 15+ MPH average. I'm slow but getting the pace up there. Sooner or later I may get to 20+ average. We have some good hills and the requisite curves. Nothing like the mountains though. It was 80 to 88* with 20% humidity. Way low moisture for the state of Misery. Just a fun ride with friends. How about yours? Wing Nut

10 mile rest day on the tandem. Century/100K tomorrow: distance is temperature dependent.

Wilderness ride today, out of Radford, Va. 58 miles, 3500' of gain. A very nice ride, and perfect weather.

100km on a "rolling" club ride today. Hot enough for you? Yes, indeed - upper 80's and sunny.
The "rolling" ride seemed more like "hilly" but was told that the "hilly" ride tomorrow is truly "HILLY!". |
Went out at 8:30 am for 43 miles round trip to Santa Fe Dam and back. Did some sprints at the start after 4 mile warm up. Did 4 before setting a steady pace. Max speed was 25.2 mph for a short time then less in the other sprints. On the way back was a rabbit for a club that was at the rest stop. Slight down hill with drop downs of about 10 feet at the spill ways. Managed to get to 28.8 mph steady for 1 to 2 miles then got tired, the club caught me at about 3 miles, was doing 19 mph, them about 24 mph. It was fun. Great day, sunny, 75 degrees with only a slight breeze. Lots of people out having a good time.

Great day here in SE Michigan for a morning ride. I needed a computer for the new touring bike and the closest REI (big sale on Planet Bike and Topeak accessories) is 10 miles from home. Nice leisurely ride up there, then took the long way home at a harder pace. Lots of sweat and 32 miles in. Nice way to get the weekend started.

After playing 18 holes and looking to see if it was going to rain or not I decided to go anyway even if it did rain.
I went 45 miles and it never rained and in fact got a little sunny later on in the ride. A good day all in all. |
52.4 miles this morning. Nice sunny day with temps in the upper 70's with very light wind. Tomorrow should be the same but rain is forecast for the evening.
|
86 miles yesterday with 7000 feet of climbing and strong headwinds for the last hour.
Here is a graph from Shprung. It doesn't show the wind or the heat on the steepest climb. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...-4counties.png |
I rode today and crushed someone's soul.
Oops. Wrong thread. |
49.64 miles. Ran into an old friend on an old bike with a dozen eggs bunged to the top tube. I knew he flew ultralight planes but he also has about ten or so bikes.

I rode to Mount Vernon Va. today from Waldorf Md. If I saw one Harley I saw a hundred( maybe more). Rolling Thunder is this weekend and I rode past a local Harley dealer where they gather to go to DC for the run.
I had given thought of riding into DC from Mt. Vernon but changed my mind at the turn back across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge that crosses the Potomac river between Md. And Va. All told I got 72.48 miles in. Close to home I thought about going the 28 miles I needed to do a century but canned that as I was sort of pooped. Hind sight I could have though. Oh well. |
Did a 45.3 mile ride this morning. The temp was in the 80's and sunny. Not many people at the MUP today but that wa fine with me.

103.7 miles and 9600' of climbing on the Mountains of Misery Century today. Rode with NealH and started with jppe. I figure Joe was back home in Charlotte by the time I got to the top of the last climb and ride finish. :o It was very hot today and there was some suffering on my part the last 4 miles. 7:20 ride time about 8:20 total time.

Did 50.04 miles this morning with a max of 44.36 mph on a nice downhill, that is the reward of climbing, it got into the 80s and sunny, got some nice tan lines going this year.

One of my regular rides today, 60km/37 miles, just enough climbing to keep me honest, sunny but cool for the time of year and pretty breezy. Really enjoyed it. Got passed about 10 miles from home by a woman in her late twenties/early thirties. Good cyclist, looked great on the bike, beautiful smooth pedalling action. We paced each other along for four or five miles before she absolutely toasted me on the last real climb before I turned for home - put about half a mile between us in five minutes. I'm getting old.

Got in 36 miles with the bike club yesterday. Went out this morning for what I planned as a 2-3 hour cruise and dropped in with a few of the local cat 2 riders and ended up with 123 miles and 4250 vertical climbing. We still made it back in time to participate in memorial services at Riverside National Cemetery. Lycra is accepted if you wear your services jersey. 2 Marines just back from Iraq, 1 current Seal, and one old jarhead. Just another great day in the USA.
|
Nope but I did something harder than a Century ride. Removed 2 stumps from the front of the yard. That is work.
