I haven't ridden in three weeks :(

I took a part-time job to earn money to buy a recumbent. The few days I've had off to ride have been crappy weather.

I am not happy....

16.7 miles for intervals this afternoon. Had a stiff north wind to fight with, but absolutely beautiful blue skies and mild temps. Have to take the bad with the good.

When you say "intervals", knowing that you live in Florida and there aren't any hills, I assume that you mean back and forth into the wind? :)

No miles for me - just a long day at the office.

20 mile ride to and from work today. Cool this morning but anything above freezing is fine if it's dry. Sunny and almost warm this afternoon. Very nice and the motorists were well-behaved, too.

Actually, we have some rollers around here, especially up towards the Alabama border, headed north. They get steep, fast, and when strung together you don't get enough spacing to "roll" the third or forth uphill part from momentum. Put these into a north headwind and I get a good workout. I try and make the direction taken minimize the down hill action so I get to have some exertion beyond the regular flat coastal rides we tend to get locked in to. Nothing like what you guys have in other areas, but I use what I have to work with. Not training for racing, that ship sailed when the PD diagnosis came last summer. Now, its just to satisfy my riding wants and needs. When I went out to start yesterday the stiff north wind made me decide what to ride, and how to structure the workout. When the opportunity to ride some real climbs I'll go for it. Just have to make that possible, somehow.

Funny, that's what I've always thought cycling was for. Racing? Not in my lifetime. Except perhaps in my mind from time to time. :)

Motorists well behaved? Are they putting something in the water in Indiana? The cars I see have aiming reticules and bicycle decals on their sides. "Got another one!"

Well, okay, it was like that in SoCal and maybe dowtown Reno where there are narrow streets and no bike lanes. For the most part Sparks is very bicycle friendly. Nevada law states motorists must leave 3 feet between them and the cyclist. Some of them can actually judge a 3 foot distance. I don't mind when a car passes me halfway into the other lane. The more distance the better. It's the pedestrians I have a problem with. When you say, "Bicycle passing on your left" they look right at you, step in your way, make you stop, then say, "Oh, sorry".
Pedestrian = slow brain.

What do you call a guy walking with tire marks up his back?——A pedestrian.

Did the usual ambling around town I call "Le Tour de Bullhead", this time as far as our local Wally-World and back.

41 miles with 1800' of climbing at 18 mph. Perfect weather for riding!

Catching up from the weekend, just returned to the GWN from a sunny week in AZ.

Saturday rode 50 miles with the Bicycle Ranch shop ride. Rode to and thru the hills of Carefree. Love that area.

Not to shabby of a photo taken while riding with one hand (at the back of the paceline).

Sunday, rode a relaxed 15 miles with my wife along the green belt in Scottsdale.
Sadly, we're back home ... destined to get the trainer set up ... but not yet.

Headed to Scottsdale Sunday for the week for business and golf but I'm not taking my bike.......

Cooler temps are here to stay! Got in 31 miles, 1500' of climbing, 14.9 mph average. I don't usually do this loop CCW, the harder direction, but it's a nice change of pace. I dogged it on the climbing going out (no excuse there), but worked very hard on the return. Tried to keep my cadence >95 which definitely produces more "power", relatively speaking.

23.1 miles this afternoon, waited to watch the partial solar eclipse after riding. We had some high clouds associated with a cool fron the moved through at the same time as the eclipse, unfortunately. Still able to make out most of it, watched coverage on our local CBS affiliate, also. It was still a beautiful fall day, once again, here. Supposed to be cool and sunny the entire weekend and into next week, alright!!!!!!!

If plans change and you find that you have time, even an afternoon, look up Arizona Outback Adventures. They're in north Scottsdale and can hook you up with a road bike, assuming you bring along your shoes, etc. They even have maps of local areas to ride. i met a guy a couple of years ago while riding that area, he had just arrived for business, drove the rental car straight to AOA and got a bike to ride for the afternoon. We rode about 30 miles together where our paths split and he headed off to return the bike.

mort1369 10-24-14 04:21 PM

Did the usual. . . .

qcpmsame 10-24-14 04:23 PM

Rode the same 23.1 mile route this afternoon, a bit cooler than yesterday, with low humidity. It is prime riding weather here, time to get the miles in while its good riding.

Weather has been appalling here. Work has been over the top, so at least I didn't miss much. After a 12+ hour day in the development lab yesterday I decided today was a rest day. But the weather still stinks, so I rode the rowing machine (day four of this and my shoulders already have a different look), then went for a trail run in light rain. I'm limited on the rower because I need more muscle to challenge the motor. I'm limited on running because my economy just sucks and my HR comes up really hard/fast even when I think I'm going easy. Think tomorrow I can get the Siena out again and I'm looking forward to really putting the hammer down.

Dave Cutter 10-24-14 05:14 PM

Weather cleared here and was almost warm. I rode just over 30 miles.

JanMM 10-24-14 06:59 PM

21 mile bike commute today. Took a slightly longer route home. Again, very nice Fallish weather. Again, no interaction with misbehaving motorists.

Greybeard712 10-24-14 07:11 PM

I'm bummed. No ride today. My biorhtyhm says I'll hit the low peak for energy Fri-Sun and I believe it. Yesterday was difficult getting up to 12mph—no energy. Besides, I have a crippled wing. Stressed my right wrist—it's wraped with an ace bandage. Must have been from toting all those heavy bags of money to the grocery store. Have you priced bread and cheese lately?

22 mi. @ 20.6 avg. the 11 mi. outbound was at 23.3 mph, 3rd best overall and 2nd best for my age group on the segment.

35 mile loop through Goshen Pass on Rt 39. This is one of the most beautiful roads in VA in my opinion.

Red Rider 10-25-14 01:31 AM

Yes. After a Spin class last night that featured substantial hill climbs and 4 min. of Tabata drills. Holy heart rate, Batman!

Did you mean 135 miles??? Taking a break, huh.

jppe 10-25-14 05:59 PM
