Yes, the occupants of the oncoming car.
Glad you're OK and the bike too! Just keeping things light hearted. :D I wish there was video of me face planting during a Walt Disney World night time 10 mile run a couple years back. Had to be one of the klutziest and funniest slow motion falls I've done. |
oops-double post

9.6 miles in heavy winds. Not far compared to the rest of you but it kicked my butt. Felt like I had no fuel in the tank the entire way.
Tomorrow is another day and I hope the wind dies down. |
Wow, some of you ride unbelievably much, i'm impressed and ashamed :thumb:

Impressed yes, but I'd say most of them started where us new folks are at some point. No reason to be ashamed at all. |
100.2 miles today, my second century ever. First long ride on the Motobecane, and on sew-ups tires (running 150psi).
http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...AtHutchins.jpg I'm liking this bike and the tires! |

Jim, great ride distance, on that beautiful Motobecane it must be really enjoyable. 25.33 miles this afternoon. Bill |
Two days of steady rain. Over 7" in the two day period. Nowhere near the 22" Bill got in the panhandle but certainly enough to put a damper on riding. Tomorrow will be clear with 0% chance of rain and a good day for my rescheduled 50 mile charity ride.

It's easier to ride a set distance if the route is flat.
I live on Long Island and the south shore is flat but the north shore is hilly. Sometimes I want to do a distance ride and others to ride hills. A few days ago I rode in New Jersey along the Palisades where its VERY hilly... it kicked my ass. It takes time in the saddle...mix up your workouts and vary your routes. That way you don't get bored and can ride different terrains. |
51 miles today on a club ride in Bartholomew and Brown counties. There were hills. Indeed, there were hills. (41 mph down one, 6 mph up more than a few)

Did my longest and hardest ride of the year so far, 109 miles, 8500 feet of climbing, and I held up pretty well.
Valley, Massanutten, Skyline I rode from Front Royal, out to the Shenandoah Valley, down to Edinburg, and crossed both ridges of Massanutten Mountain over to Luray, and then up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. 4 pretty big climbs in all. It was pretty windy but I had real good luck with the wind direction and terrain. Only the long straight slog up the valley into the teeth of the wind was a little bit annoying. The trees are really leafing out late this year. At the lower elevations, the leaves are about half out. At the higher elevations there's nothing. The buds have just barely started to develop. |

Gusty winds here too....but finally dry.
Rode my 14 mile route, which is my shortest, but runs along a back road parallel to a marsh and creek for very good wildlife viewing. I'm lucky to live in an area where I can enjoy flats, rollers and climbs and usually not have to buck a straight on wind. "Bike The Buffalo" |
Did my first club ride yesterday, and had a great time despite a steady 20+ mph breeze. As you an see, we generally rode into the wind going out, and had a much more pleasant ride coming back. Made it back in time for a Derby Party and a Mint Julep!

A 53 mile charity ride for the Sheriff's Office Fallen Hero's Charity Ride. Nice and hot Florida weather but with pretty strong winds on the last 25 miles of the ride. After two days of staying indoors due to all day rains, it was good to get back out and ride.

21 miles on the Screamer with my Favorite Stoker. Weather: Just about perfect.

9.6 miles today.

25.4 miles this afternoon, finally felt like a spring day here.

I've been riding more and more regularly the last few weeks as the temps warm up here in the NE. The mornings still can be pretty chilly, though, and we've been getting an amazing amount of wind for this area. Today, I rode 25 mi around my town, doing 5 mi loops.
In the early morning, I was in NYC helping out at the TD 5-Boro Tour. I worked in the VIP Hospitality section. It may actually have been worth the extra dough those folks paid. They got a private entrance to the start, had a special breakfast including pretty decent oatmeal, and got a little mechanical assist if they needed it. I loved watching all the different kinds of folks and bikes riding together. They rode about 5 or 6 abreast and the line stretched for miles! I couldn't get in this year but they promised me priority registration next year for being a volunteer. |
