Rode pretty fast for a high exertion level on my regular course, held up a 17 mph average, but felt really sluggish the entire ride. Sinuses started to stop up as soon as I began riding.

22 mile commute today - took a longer route home. Pretty hot but, hey! it's August. Still hot late in the evening and quite humid.

(Yesterday) 15 mi, 14 mph average felt like a cakewalk compared to previous rides. Nice to feel the improvement.

Nice 30 mile ride today by myself: https://www.sportstracklive.com/track...Cycling/715992

Was surprisingly easier than I expected (maybe I'm making progress?? ), and in the Trivial Personal Milestones category, I upped my "miles to first foot down" distance by a little bit (just shy of 24 miles).

31 mile group ride plus 14 miles commuting to and from the start/finish of the ride for a total of just over 45 miles. Temperatures still in the high 80s by the time I got back to the house.

35 miles, another club ride today. I've had a severe sinus infection this week and am taking antibiotics since Tuesday but I promised my wife I'd take it easy on the ride. That didn't happen. I pushed my own pace as if I were 100%. Three weeks in a row - they're starting to think of me as a regular.

I met a couple of younger girls - this was their first ride with the group for both of them. As it turns out, one is a huge Braves fan and the other, for the Astros. I have an autographed ball from a particular player on the worst-to-first Braves team that I think I'll give it to the Braves fan. I really don't have any need for it and I can tell she'd really get a kick out of it. It was a foul ball that I caught and later had autographed by that player.

We also have a family friend who plays for the Astros. I'll see if I can't get her a signed ball from our friend. Nice kids - both of them.

6:45 am start & 20 mi @ 13.26 mph. Six more days to make 20mi @ 15 mph in first month of riding. Probably doable but looks like goal will be moved to second month. Couple of days now with Strava. My speed looks very erratic (maybe because it probably is at this stage) but overall time and distance very close. Amazing thing is 73 YO body still feeling good!

Rode the Marin Metric Century today - actual distance was just under a metric (59 miles). Total elevation gain was 3930 feet, average pace was 13.4. A few of those hill really kicked my butt. I think I gained 2 pounds on the rest stop food. They really did a great job of organizing this ride.

Quick tandem ride this afternoon before predicted storms. About halfway to our planned turnaround point, threatening weather looked to be headed our way-->quick turnaround and scurried home. Nice tail wind for a couple of miles before the gusty winds arrived. Pulled into the garage a couple of minutes before a downpour.. 9 miles

Rode pretty late for me, tried out the visibility of the light and rear blinkie at dusk. Ride was super, the near-by thunderstorm cooled things form 92*F to a comfortable 73*F when I rode.

I did the 34 mile, Hands Across the Sand organized ride to the the Gulf Beaches, today. I found out today that cycling shoes and beach sand are not a good combination. Great ride but slow at times because of all the beach traffic. Spent a few hours at the beach and then returned to the starting point. It was a hot ride in the afternoon heat, but there was a nice breeze from the Gulf that cooled things down somewhat.

A water powered jet pack that you can rent for a 20 minute ride. Bring your weekly paycheck if you want to ride it. Photo is a bit grainy because it was taken with full zoom on my iPhone. It's not a very good zoom camera.

Some parasailing going on at the same time. Some of the locals will bring their parasails with them, but this one is a rental. Not sure how much it costs to rent one or how long the ride is.

Did the Marin 100K today on the tandem. Strange that the route sheet showed 59.7 with the actual distance around 57.5. For those wondering why we just didn't circle the block 100 times to get an actual metric - this ride involves 4000-5000' of climbing and at our combined 134 years that ain't so easy.; could have been worse, however, as the younger folks were doing somewhere between 100 miles and 200 miles on a pick your own poison basis. My stoker did a fantastic job on this ride considering we are having saddle/seat interface problems back there.

Very hot and humid 30 miles this morning at a very crowed MUP. Runners seemed to be coming from everywhere today. Good thing is that it kept the pacelines away, or at the least, made them ride solo. Nothing against riding in a paceline, it's just that when the park is crowded, they still seem to think that no one has a right on the path but them. Still, it was a great ride, especially on the new saddle.

Bill,
Might I suggest you try taking one Claritin tab about 15 minutes before riding. My sinuses also go nuts up here in the High Desert of California, but talking that Claritin keeps them clear for my daily hour (or less) ride of 12 - 15 miles. Its nice to be able to breath normally other than having to have you tongue hang out for air and to catch flies.

I rode 54 miles today on the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge National Park in southeastern Pa. The ride was tough--I am a computer programmer, and I had to go into work last night from 9 p.m. through 1 a.m. to install a new system--the culmination of 9 months of work. (We needed to install it during downtime for a number of other production systems.) I definitely felt the lack of sleep during the ride. In addition, I didn't eat anything during the ride, although I had a nice breakfast beforehand. Maybe 50 miles is my threshold, beyond which I will need to start eating. I've been doing 50 mile rides for the last couple of weekends, and didn't feel like I "bonked" on those. I felt like I was out of gas today, though.

Started out to be 30 mi ride, slow and easy. Ops sky getting BLACK so cut it short with 20 miles. Still a good ride and finally won one. Beat the rain by 20 minutes.

It was hot and humid here today, cut the entire yard at once for a change, just to get it out of the way, then assembled a patio table and six chairs for my wife. Ride was actually comfortable. Thunderstorm headed in but I beat it through the ride, temps were moderate due to the storm wind.

Judge's ruling: You did a Metric.

After a stormy late night/early morning (2" of rain in our drought-stricken backyard) didn't even consider the scheduled 8am club ride. Instead, went out late in the afternoon when things were hot and sunny - but much less humid today than recently.
20 mostly-rural miles at a hair less than 17mph. Rode by lots of folks dealing with downed branches and trees along one stretch - left over from last night's weather.

Saw two dead skunks - one on each side of the road - both stank but not to high heaven.
