Good way to begin the month
80* Temp....101 miles..finished in the dark. No problem...have good lights. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...eLights011.jpg |
Nice ride
Like the air horn taped to the bars ... |
80 miles circumnavigating the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway, from Waynesboro up the valley to Vesuvius, up over the Blue Ridge Parkway, down to Crabtree Falls, and back up the Piedmont side. Oof my legs are not used to the climbing. Beautiful day, but I'm glad I had my lights while riding on Rockfish Valley and Rt 250. I don't mind riding in the winter, but I hate that it gets dark so early...

04:50 am I start out to do a 42 miler, 38ºF. By the time I hit the 23 mile mark, I swear it is colder than when I started. Now generally I expect this as the forecast states the change also, but the forecast calls for it to get warmer into the low 40s. I push on and past a bail out point, about 30 miles, and do the whole 42 miles. I did stop a couple of times to get the circulation back in the feet and hands. I get home and yes, my thoughts are confirmed, the temps dropped.

A 50 miler from my house over to the inlaws to check on the Father in Law. 150 miles over two days.....I'm okay with that.

36.85 miles with my sweetie on the tandem today.

26 miles on a Sunday Social Ride with the Colorado Springs Cycling Club. What a excellent day, 60F, sunny, very little breeze, a real treat for December in So. Colorado! :)
|
The same 45 miles Sunday club ride I've been doing through much of the late fall. The weather wasn't quite as good as predicted - foggy with damp roads and the high 30s- but as one of the riders pointed out, that's not bad at all for Minnesota in December.
I rode the Felt again for only the 3rd time and it's clear that the improvement is not a fluke - for whatever reason, I"m noticeably faster than I was on the Trek. I pulled for much of the ride - at least a third - and mostly felt great, though I tired in the last 5 miles. One of the other riders asked, "Did that new bike come with EPO?" |
26 miles on a perfect late Fall day 55 degrees.
|
Got in a nice ride this afternoon, super weather here today. My daughter got a ride on a section on the Silver Comet with two friends, she said it was a good day there but wanted a faster ride next time. Mechanical woes for one of the friends slowed them. We deliver the R500 to her after Christmas, should be well used by her, riding it here is neat after all the time on the old, heavy Schwinn Traveler she has.

Great start to the month, in spite of lots of rain. 25 miles Saturday, and 30(.7) Sunday <strava>
Today's ride was 'interesting'. I went out after the overnight / morning storm had passed through, but the roads were trashed - I was jumping branches and slipping through washout most of the ride. Then the ride was curtailed, as the usual loop road (Portola Valley road) was closed - looked like it was power lines down. Still, very nice to get the road time in. |
Another ten mile ride this evening after watching the Colts pull off a last-second miracle win.
Quite warm enough today for December- 60's again. |
69.73 miles today. Temp around 50F. Pretty good for December in New England.
|
Wife and I rode together a bit through the neighborhood. Pretty weather in Alabama right now.
|
64.79 mi (according to my Garmin). High 40's-50, 20+mph south wind, some rain. Not bad for December in western Oregon...

I need to stop reading these posts. They make me want to go out and ride, even with the knee not being ready yet. :injured:
Edit: got in a 10 mile trainer ride in 0:53:27. Increased the resistance and went to the large chainring but could only keep it there for about two miles. Dropped back to the small chainring and finished the ride with the increased resistance. No pain, but knee feel a bit tired. |
26 mile nightride 42 temp.
|
A wee bit nippy for much riding at -35F and ice fog.
|
Yet another ten mile ride this evening, with my stoker on the Screamer. Still with unnaturally warm conditions.

Breeze ride again up the Fallowfield Loop in the dark and the rain.
Was in two minds whether to go out as it was raining hard for most of the day on and off but it stopped and cleared up and the weather forecast said it wouldnt rain again till 9 pm when I would be back home. But since when did the weather learn to tell the time. I gets to the venue and it starts to pelt down and I was the first person there so had to wait 10 mins or so for one of the Ride Leaders to show up then the other turned up just after. Was meant to be 5 of us but the other two chickened out so it was just me and the ride leaders again. The ride was still pleasant as the Loop is mostly tarmac/ concrete although there were some major puddles to contend with even a small lake or two. Ride distance was about 20 miles or so. |
