Took the mtb out for a short 3 mile hill climb today up Wayah Bald. Talked to 3 AT through hikers at the summit, one from Houston, Savannah, and N. Virginia. It was a great afternoon for a ride, low 70s in the valley, cooler up top.

My big ride today was to get some new flourescent lights at the hardware store. The real trick was getting them back home by bicycle without breaking them. I mounted the lamps along the top tube and wrapped them with corrugated cardboard at the points where the lamps contacted the bicycle. Then, I secured them to the bike with bungee cords. My right leg had to lean outwards so I didn't bump the bulbs with my leg, but I rode gently and made it home safely.

22 mile recovery ride.

@jimmuller

Nice bike.

You should secure that strap hanging from the pannier. The last thing you want happening is it catching in the derailleur. Check the other side as you don't want a strap getting hung up in the spokes either.

We did our usual 30 miles on the Withlacoochee and plan on doing about 24 this morning before packing up the rv and heading to John_V's area.... Tampa. Actually we are headed to Palm Harbor and plan on riding the Pinellas for next few days. By looking at the forecast it appears spring has finally arrived to central FL....80's and 90's :thumb:

Have you ridden the trail from Palm Harbor to Dunedin and back north to Tarpon Springs? It's a real nice ride. My wife and I did it last month and really liked it.

Yes, we stay at the Sherwood Forest RV park on the trail in Palm Harbor. This part of the trip we really enjoy. However, not as much fun from Clearwater south. Also the ride to Honeymoon Island is great. Well we finished our 24 mile ride at home and just having a little lunch. The rv is packed and we head out in a few minutes. Hope to get in a short ride at Palm Harbor later today.

Very windy for today's ride. I got a late start and got in 15 miles before the rain came and cut the ride short.

First weekday afternoon local group ride of the year. 41 miles. 8 riders who all stayed together until the last couple climbs.

Eleven mile tandem ride after work today. Windy but warm and dry.

Not today - but this is the first time I've had the energy to get on the forum since my ride on Saturday.

240 miles.

37 miles of rolling hills on the north end of the Suncoast Trail. It was a hot and sunny ride with moderate humidity and some pretty good headwinds on the return trip.

Today's ride.

Gravity Aided 04-10-13 04:04 PM

Three miles before the cold-wet thunderstorm hit. Trying out that 1981 Voyageur I bought last winter. 700c's are the new addition.

Very, very nice ride, Duncan! When did you start and finish? You must have been riding in the dark at the beginning or end, or possibly both.

Dave

Second commute of the year. 25 mi round trip.

rgc52 04-10-13 05:56 PM

got in a quick 10 1/2 miles between work around the house

qcpmsame 04-10-13 06:16 PM

Jeese Duncan, 240 miles, you're slacking off on us again?:50:

Seriously, that is one impressive ride you completed. How is your extra bike search doing so far?

Thanks, Dave.

It was a 24-hour ride. Teams of about 5 riders all started at different locations, rode a (pre-approved) route of at least 360km, and ended at the same place - at the same time. We had 13 teams participating in the event, called a fleche, and we finished at 7:00am at the Marriott in Arlington, VA, next to the Key Bridge (i.e. across the river from DC).

So the pace was pretty slow - though we had a tough course, with a cold headwind across the whole ride. As we turned south, at around sunset, the wind direction changed!

LOL@Bill - sorry, I'll go faster and further next time!

The search is not going well. The best I have so far is a generous offer from one of our Fifty+ members ... but I suspect his frame is too big for me. I need to buy something next week - the weather here in WI is beginning to improve, and the National 24 Hour Challenge is getting closer...

JanMM 04-10-13 07:32 PM

Ten miles on the long 'bent this evening.

BikeWNC 04-10-13 08:17 PM

Another 1400' 3 mile climb on the mtb up Wayah this afternoon. I had to ride high to avoid the mid 80s temps in the valleys. A nearby forest fire filled the air with smoke and it kicked off my asthma some tonight. Saw another 5 AT hikers up there today. They just keep coming north.

Red Rider 04-10-13 11:35 PM

I rode around the 'hood a couple time, for maybe 15 min. before the sun went down, just to satisfy the 30 Days of Biking folks.

Better that than not riding at all, I guess.

Bikey Mikey 04-11-13 06:05 AM

43 miles starting at about 0500.

Flying Merkel 04-11-13 09:12 AM

Had to mail off some bills, so I took out the American Eagle. We went for a slow short ride to the post office and to the local historical society. Cut through some industrial areas on the way.

Everyone needs a bike like this. The Eagle is a bit undergeared, so learn patience on the flats. It's easy to forget the joys of a well designed coaster brake bike. The ride becomes about the scenery, not the bike itself.

24 solo miles this afternoon on my usual rural route. 53° NW Wind 20 mph Gusts 34 mph. A grand total of 187ft. of climbing. :p

PRus 04-12-13 06:57 AM

Nothing is better for me than a group ride like last night. 26 miles , everyone stayed together, comfortable steady pulls by everyone, no "flats"!
Just a fun ride with some friends after a hard day at work!
