Same 18.5 mile loop as yesterday. Almost as hot but a bit windier - headwind out, tailwind in. Rolled at 30mph for a while on a smooth flat-to-rolling section coming back (tailwind).

Got in a good 30 mile ride this morning with some really cool temps that made the ride very enjoyable.

Nice, hard ride this morning. Started my father's day doing what I enjoy most ;) Temps in the 90's, humidity in the 90's but the wind was light for once!!!

Rode 55 miles with the fast group today (avg 20.5 mph) before getting dropped for the last 7 miles. Finished the full 62 miles at an avg of 19.6 mph, no Internet inflation here :-) I earned those miles.

The fast group was only five riders, everyone in their 20-30s except my best friend, who is in his mid seventies. He kicked my butt as usual and finished at 21.3 mph avg. He is an amazing rider for his age and my inspiration.

That's over 145 hard miles this weekend.

Next weekend I'll scale back a bit because my two day big ride is June 29-30th. I'll post more info about the event next week. 250 miles in two days in hot south Texas...what in the world am I doing ;-)

Actually yesterday, did the Chena Hot Springs bike classic. It is a hilly ride with a small upgrade for the last 16 miles to a wonderful hot springs as a treat at the end. Since I am starting again after a 5 year hiatus it was slow going and I was not in the best of shape. Rained for the last 20 miles off and on, start to get dry and more rain but the big downpour happened a half hour after finishing :). When it rains here in Fairbanks it cools down right away so it wasn't fun but so it goes. The soak in the 100+ water was the real treat.

I rode 33 mi today on the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge National Park in southeast Pa. I almost sent Punxsutawney Phil's cousin to "Groundhog Heaven". Near the end of my ride, I was riding on a long, flat section where I can pick up a bit of speed. All of a sudden, a large groundhog stepped out of the long grass on the right-hand side of the trail and sauntered onto the trail, stopping right in my path. I couldn't swerve to my left because two cyclists riding abreast were coming towards me and I was afraid I would collide with them. So I gulped and headed in the direction from which the groundhog just came. I swerved off the right-hand side of the trail into the long (6" - 8") grass. Fortunately there was no drop-off at the edge of the trail. I rode about 15 feet in the grass, and the long grass slowed me a bit. I was then able to swerve back onto the trail. On the plus side--my body must have released a bit of adreneline, and I found myself riding the next couple of miles faster than I ever had before!

50 mile ride today with a 17 mph avg..not to bad considering the wind we had today. Of course my strava app said i reached a top speed of 164 mph today..ya think it miscalculated?

Not today, but yesterday I rode my first fixed-gear century.

It was hard, particularly 20 miles or so directly into a 20MPH headwind. Hit some gravel at about mile 90 and crashed, but got up and finished the ride regardless. Remarkably pain-free today!

Mort Canard 06-17-12 08:11 PM

Put in 22 miles this afternoon on a new route. Unfortunately there was about 2-1/2 miles of construction so I had to ride on hard packed dirt and gravel. Still it's a nice route for a south wind (21mph w 28mph gusts tonight) and I know a workaround for the construction zone.

Riding GOBA (Great OhioBicycling Adventure). Sunday, first day rode 52 miles. Rained most of the day, sometimes really hard. Supposed to clear for remainder of week with temps in the low 90's. Not looking forward to that. Riding start in Hillsboro, OH, then to Chilliocothe, Ashville, Willmington, Washington Court House, then back to Hillsboro on Saturday. Lots of hills.

Had a nice easy evening ride yesterday. It is warming up and the humidity is more in the range we are accustomed to, now. Early evening with enough light to see and be seen was good with a slight breeze from the southeast. Avg.speed was my usual slugly 17.6 mph.

Bikey Mikey 06-18-12 06:56 AM

35½ miles this morning. The new part of the route has more climbs(most here wouldn't call them that, but around here, I take what I can get).

Rest day today, but on the 9th I rode 109 miles in the Flagstaff area with some club members, then 30 recovery on the 10th. On the road for business last week, but did get in some running on the treadmill . 66 miles with the club on Saturday @ 17.2 ave, then 30 at 17.1 yesterday. Yesterdays ride was the warmest of the season. 95 when I started, 101 when I finished.

RaymondK43 06-18-12 03:44 PM

7.50 miles @ 30 minutes.

For the third day in a row, rode the same route except that today was on the Screamer with wife/stoker along for help. Similar winds and heat. Hit 30 again (tailwind and a little bit of a positive slope).

Gravity Aided 06-19-12 04:04 AM

I had 9 miles with 40 mph gusts . Luckily, a tailwind . 92f .

Bikey Mikey 06-19-12 08:23 AM

36½ miles today. Ended up adding an extra mile to the usual because I forgot my water and had to return home and retrieve it.

John_V 06-19-12 09:53 AM

We had a recovery day yesterday, so no ride. Spent it shopping for our trip to Illonois. This morning was a nice and cool 63 degrees at 7:30 AM which made my 30 mile ride very enjoyable. Very little humidity and moderate winds made it almost perfect. The wife got her 16 miles in, shaving 5 minutes off her best time from last week.

az_cyclist 06-19-12 12:38 PM

about 30ish, with a small group. some hill work, all thru town so the average was slow.

berner 06-19-12 05:50 PM

Loaded the bike up with 18 pounds, not counting food or water, as a test for anticipated short tours this summer of 2 to 4 days. The bike seems to handle much the same as when unloaded - even when climbing a short hill on the route. This bike is a Specialized Secteur with relaxed Rubaix geometry, longish chainstays and a long wheelbase and takes up to 28 mm tires which is what I have mounted. It's a sturdy bike well suited for short tours and modest loads. The return leg was into a freshening breeze but the extra work was good training also.

RaymondK43 06-19-12 06:07 PM

11.1962 @ 45 minutes.

Mort Canard 06-19-12 08:26 PM

19 gusty blustery miles tonight. 23mph south winds with 38mph gusts, and a grand total of 102ft of climbing. Those gentle rises take it right out of me!!!
