Put in 31 miles on one of my favorite rural routes. Nice cool temperatures and less than 10 mph winds. Needed to give equal time to the Gazelle road bike so it got the nod.

I went out this morning for a 23 mile ride in the heat, about 90. Weather should break this afternoon, back into the mid to upper 70's. Lots of sweat was involved.

Did 20 on a pretty good loop. Didn't get started til noon. Was pretty warm (93) and kinda windy. Had to stop twice, legs were a little weak. Think an earlier rides in order tomorrow, looking for 103.

25 miles did several errands and returned the, Trail count sheet's to the Pikes Peak Area Counsol of Governments I did this week, then to the LBS to check out some different pedals and then home! :)

On Wednesday I rode a brisk 37 miles along Legacy Trail and through Venice, FL and noticed HR higher than normal for the amount of effort. Felt a bit whacked when I got home and HR was still around 80 (normal resting is ~40). Woke yesterday with a-fib, so couldn't ride with the gang of old farts. A-fib spontaneously corrected this afternoon, so OK to ride tomorrow. Cardiac ablation last November has reduced a-fib incidence and shortened duration, but the $100,000 cost (not to me) of the procedure was, as I was warned beforehand, was not 100% successful. But I'm still alive!!

And that's a good thing!

Rested yesterday and planned to ride to work today. But, ended up working from home today - I have the option of doing that part of the time - has it's advantages but plays hell with my bike commuting miles. Ended up doing some bike maintenance this evening followed by a nine mile ride.
Aiming for a 50 mile club ride in the AM.

Gravity Aided 06-23-12 05:53 AM

10 miles on my new commute. Parking lots, hills, woodland trails, bikepath.

Mort Canard 06-23-12 01:04 PM

Nice AM ride on the local bike paths before the wind and the temperature started up. 24 miles at a nice aerobic pace.

Wogster 06-23-12 02:26 PM

I rode today, first time since April, felt like going through Jello, even though the wind wasn't bad, ugggh.

My sweetie told me I could take the Masi out today, it being a solo bike instead of our tandem. As I was prepping the bike in the front yard my neighbor asks "Are you coming or going?" I said I was just going. He said "Give me 15 minutes and I'll join you." So he grabbed his lugged-steel frame Serotta and we rode off! 44.5 miles, more than he was used to doing on his early morning sprints, not quite as far as I was hoping for, but respectable. We did it faster than I usually ride. I'm usually more comfortable riding with no one around me!

I had my first ride since being run off the road Tuesday evening. Too many family events Wed-Fri. I wore the new Hi-Viz yellow jersey that came today, It is very comfortable and very, very visible. Ride was really good, a moderate pace out and back, west wind from the tropical storm (Debby) out in the Gulf. its a cross wind so it didn't bother me, just had to maintain the line better in the minor gusts.

Tonight is the Central Indiana Bicycling Association's annual NITE Ride (Navigate Indy This Evening), starting at 11:00 PM. That one doesn't really appeal to me, but they make a whole day of it, starting this morning with a 54 mile ride from the Major Taylor Velodrome near Marian University, up through the northwest part of Indy and into the north-northwest counties and back. A real nice ride, all in all, and much more in keeping with my own abilities than my other club's (Team Nebo Ridge) annual 3 Reservoirs Challenge, a 120-mile ride around all three of the area's reservoirs, done as a warmup to the upcoming Ride Across INdiana (RAIN). I thought at least one or two other "B" riders from TNR would likely join me for the CIBA ride, but I didn't see anyone.

Here's the Garmin info for anyone who's interested.

I rode the Medium/43 mile option of the ride that CraigB did in Indy this morning. Not doing the NITE ride tonight but taking my stoker to the Morning After the NITE Ride Sunday out in Oaklandon - expecting a big serving of flat rural miles.

Not riding today, probably, got to make tropical storm home preparations. The wind is stiff and the radar shows the first feeder band about 2-3 hours away. the models show the storm coming ashore from anywhere in Tampa Bay over to Houston/Beaumont. We are in a path and the Pensacola Beach people are removing all loose items and swimming is banned. Models say Tuesday in Houston-Lake Charles but the feeder bands will come through the whole time. Lots of rain here.

11.5 miles this morning.

Bikey Mikey 06-24-12 06:48 AM

35.6 miles this morning...best time ever, 1 hour 58 minutes. What's also nice is that this is over the slight route change I made a bit over a week ago and until today and Friday, I was doing a fair bit longer. Very pleased today. Maybe pie, but not likely as all the wedding food(and leftovers) have probably added 5 or so pounds.

I tried to keep pace with a group of 3 tandems from the start, and managed to stay in contact with one or two of them through the early hills, but one of them had a cable snap right as we approached the turn onto Fishback. Looked like it might be a derailleur. I felt really bad for them.

If it was the cable to a lo normal FD, then they coulda made it up Fishback Hill. If it was a RD (hi normal) cable, that would wreck their hill-climbing for sure.

I wasn't expecting Fishback on the ride until I recognized where we were very close to the climb. Perfect example of a short steep hill. It doesn't look that steep on the approach.

Got home late from a wedding last night but woke up early anyway. Wife was out and it was a beautiful morning so I ran out and did a quick 25 miles.

This past week I traveled down to Tuscaloosa, Al with my daughter and a few teammates to the UA Gymnastics Camp. On Tuesday I joined the DCBC Tuesday Night Ride. I guess there were around 30 riders which split into several groups as the ride progressed. I stayed with the middle group for a bit over 35 miles out on the rural country roads. It was quite warm to start with a temp in the 90s but it cooled somewhat by the end. Fun ride.

This morning I met NealH for a ride from the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center. It's a 17.6 mile 3400' climb up there and I really enjoyed the cool morning temps in the low 60s. I'm fighting a cold but the ride went well anyway. Lots of cyclists out on the route.

I did 11 with the misses...her on her Schwinn cruiser and me on my ROAM. Then went to LBS and made final decision on road bike. (Raleigh Carbon 1 Revenio) Will pick up tomorrow to allow more time for fitting and adjustments.
